I did say you'd expect that. My problem isn't that it'll be one easy one next, but that it'll probably be only relatively easy ones after that, too - Wilder's only ever knowingly faced a legit contender twice (Fury #2 and #3), the entirety of the rest of his career is journeymen and the odd gatekeeper (including Ortiz who's been outrageously overhyped). I just think expectations need to be tempered a bit - a man that carefully picked his opponents to avoid too much of a challenge at the peak of his confidence is unlikely to come back off of two brutal beatings and then jump in with the kind of guys he's always ducked in the past.
Would love to see that but the chances of Wilder stepping in with Hrgovic are about the same as Andy Ruiz showing up for his next fight with a 6 pack, lol. Hrgovic is far too dangerous an opponent to take on for a comeback fight .
Fat Andy and I'll be rooting for the Bronze Dosser in that one after clocking the criminally hideous pair of shoes he bought for his son This content is protected
I don't want to see that puny Wilder against those overweight behemoths. He needs to drop down to bridgerweight and fight Oscar Rivas to become 2-division world champion.
Is anyone thinking about the possibility that Wilder will retire? He is 36 years old and not so much time for calculations (especially if he would take breaks between fights of 18 months). On the other hand, if he doesn't retire and loses the fight, that would add a lot to the winner's resume, and Wilder's end. If he wins an easy fight, it wouldn't add anything to his career. If he defeats a serious opponent; that would already make sense. I think that the Wilder-Joshua fight would be an opportunity to redeem one of them, as well as the least likely next fight for Wilder.
If he doesn't retire, It be nice to see him test himself on someone other than Fury or cans. I have no interest in Ortiz 3. Ruiz would be fun, spark him early and convincingly and he get the worlds attention again.
At this point if his career it is a waste to take tuneups. Wilder has Andy Ruiz Jr, Parker on his plate. Two big interesting options. Just pick one of them. Later on he will have Joshua. Then he could retire if he feels like it. It will be a career fully worked
There's still a place for him in the division, at least for the next couple of years. I'd really like to see him go out swinging for the fences. He no longer has a belt, so he's got nothing to lose. Take on Ruiz, take on Joshua, take on Usyk. Why not? Add a few more million to his retirement fund and go out saying he didn't duck anybody.
