Tyson weighed 215lbs and let's say he had enough power to keep the big guys off him....... The tall, lanky guys never lack punching power, but their durability often is more of a question mark...
til he actually faces a top 15hw, it's really hard to get a read on any prospect. You can build up your record fighting no hopers and bums like Dimitrenko and Arreola have done....You saw what happened to Dimitrenko when they put him in with a top HW chambers....Just watch what happens when Arreola takes that leap up to Vitali.
When you start succesffuly beating Top 15 people I would classify you as a Contender not a prospect. I don't think anyone is saying Wilder is a contender yet, but we are hopeful that if he keeps progressing skill wise he might be a good fighter.
Fury is ok. He won't be world champ, too open, not powerful enough but he is a good prospect too. Why compare these two?
That's pretty stupid. Not having an extensive amateur background doesn't mean he can't become a great fighter....
I like Wilder and I hope he forges a good career for himself, but fighting guys who aren't going to see the first bell is no way to be learning the trade. He needs rounds, badly.
Fortunately Deontay is only 24, so he has a lot of time, but as of right now I have higher hopes for someone like Kubrat Pulev, who in less fights has fought much better opposition and has the right kind of size, 6'4.5" and 240, to really be a physical handfull.
A bit off topic... does anyone have a link to that video of Lennox Lewis showing Deontay Wilder how to throw a proper jab in a carpark?
I will withhold judgement as I haven't seen him as a pro yet, but as an amateur I thought he looked very very average indeed. His performances in Beijing were bordering on crap.
