Now I know that some of Y'all have been getting down on the man's level of competition, argueing that even at the tendeer age of 25 he should be fighting someone with a pulse after an Olympic bronze medal and 14 professional fights. But how can anyone argue against him when he had sacked it up to fight...DeAndrey Abron! And the best part about it is that DeAndrey will be making his debut at heavy, having amassed his 15-6 record as a cruiser and lightheavy.Only the best for Wilder.

Don't forget Wilder does have limited amateur experience. He needs to focus on putting on weight.

Wilder should fight a Klitschko for big money, after all, he has a big name in America. HBO would probably go for it too.

Not defending what he is doing, but, people forget Tyson fought a whole bunch of nobodies before fighting for the belt. Still Deontay has major faults in his game.

Not nobodies like this. I have never seen anything like this. He is not even figthing the ordinary cans- the Cliff Cousers and Danny Bachelders. He is going out of his way to find guys thave no business being in a boxing ring.

I like the man, and still hope for the best, but this is absurd. He is going to get sparring partner syndrome, and when he has to turn it up a notch, he won't be able to.

Given his lack of amateur background I dont have an issue with a gradual build up to give the guy experience.

But you learn absolutely nothing from knocking over some part timer in less than a minute.

He needs some rounds under his belt and its time to step it up a level.

Doesnt need to be anyone to dangerous but I mean its doing him no good fighting the guys he has been.

I've been a big supporter of Wilder, I really think he could be something in the division....but how he's taking things, it's getting really hard to stand behind him. I agree with that he needs to step it up and get someone that'll take him 8 rounds at least and not fall over from the 1st glancing shot. He's in good shape I think but needs to put on some weight....215 is very light for someone 6'7 or so.....

    Deontayyyyy vs Deonbrayyyyyy

    has a ring to it

to me this is an improvement

in all honesty i dont care how little amateur background he had, he won a medal

he has seen the best, im not saying rush a title fight he is young has time is not even in his prime yet

but you shouldnt fight guys with no am experience and less than ten pro fights when your at 10 fights

15-6 is good i guess its a guy with experience he is small and not one of the usual fat ****s Deontay will need to use his legs and cut off the ring

Im hoping he fights a Marcus Rhode type a guy who is like 30-30 but goes a few rounds

im not saying Deontay needs to be beat up and in wars but he needs to go atleast 5 rounds to build endurance and strategy for long fights

and he needs guys who hit back so he can test his defense

the more he knocks out these complete bums the more bad habits he will develope

What's the gain he gets from fighting this guy, just a +1 in wins and KO's?
He won't learn anything from it, he won't move up the rankings, he will not scare any other HW with it or get attention from the general public. He just will get paid (maybe like a motherf... like Dirrell).

Step up Deontay, 2 levels at least! :-(

What is going on here is a little community service guys...

As a Pro Boxer he couldn't even fight in his home state until the state got its act together and put up a regulatory agency. The state of Alabama now has a boxing commission almost single-handedly because of Deontay.

The fight is in Tuscaloosa - Deontay's home town.

This is more like a football team scheduling a weak opponent for homecoming than anything else for his debut in his home state and in his home town.

I wouldn't read a lot more into it than that... Deontay is still learning and growing and isn't yet ready to fight a top contender. He has a decent team and a conservative management who knows that in this day and age a single loss might mean a huge drop in interest and total career earnings. IF he wants to throw a small party for his hometown fans - its all good. Roy Jones used to do the same for his fans in Pensacola as I recall :bbb

Thats becoming a ****ing excuse. I know his team wants to "bring him along" and "grow into his body" but its been THREE years since he turned pro. He hasnt been able to put on any weight in all that time. He still needs these ridiculous fights to bring his confidence up?

Im not a boxing fan that believes every prospect needs to fight for a title after 20 fights. But fighting D level and C level fighters isnt going to make you better. At some point soon he needs to start fighting some ranked guys. Fight Jeremy Bates, Mike Mollo, Javier Mora etc etc. Somebody that can actually fight a bit.

Too early to judge Wilder. One fight can wreck a career, at some point you have to step up the opponent but I am not going to jump his case yet.
