Despite his many flaws, I think he does have one-punch power, but he's not exactly in a rush to prove it at the top level by fighting decent guys.
No , it's not overrated. Punching power is the only thing legit about Wilder, without it he'd be below Szpilka/Washington level.
I think that's the one thing about Wilder that isn't overrated. When you're consistently knocking fighters out with one or two shots, causing them to have seizures or wet their shorts because their brains have shorted out then you have legit power. You can question the opponents he's doing that against, but fighters don't magically get tougher the higher up the rankings you get, they just get harder to land on clean.
He knocked Szpilka out with a perfectly thrown straight right down the pipe. He knocked down Washington with a short chopping right. He generally hurts his opponents first with crisp technically sound shots. It's only after they get hurt that he goes full retard with the windmills.
Yeah for sure, good point and no matter what the fans think of him I'm quite sure his peers respect him and in some cases fear him.
Deontay Wilder does not have more punching power than Alexander Povetkin. Never mind even comparing his punching power to Wladimir Klitschko. Alexander Povetkin knocked a previously UN-KO'ed southpaw in Mike Perez out in the first round. Deontay Wilder took 10 rounds to KO a previously KO'ed southpaw in Artur Szpilka. Alexander Povetkin took 6 rounds to knock Johan Duhapas out unconscious. Deontay Wilder couldn't even drop Duhapas in 11 rounds and required a questionable stoppage. Absolutely no evidence Wilder has more powerful punches than Alexander Povetkin whatsoever. Povetkin has just as many, if not more concussive knockouts as Wilder. Difference is, Povetkin's level of competition has been MUCH HIGHER. Meanwhile, Wilder has been boxing against much inferior level of opposition. I doubt Wilder stops many of Povetkin's opponents. Meanwhile, Povetkin probably goes through Wilder's record and knocks every one of Wilder's opponents out. Having stated this, I believe Wladimir Klitschko is the most powerful single puncher of them all. I rate Alexander Povetkin slightly above Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder. Joshua and Wilder are probably equal. However, Povetkin has the best combination of chin / punch resistance and punching power whilst the rest don't seem to take punches as well as they can dish out.
Wilder has more than you're letting on. Chances are Bowie Tupou is the hardest puncher in the HW division right now but that hasn't got him all that far has it?
wilders power is legit and should be obvious just with the eye test my doubts are when he moves up in class to a top 5 fighter will he be able to land his big power shots my top 5 in no order ortiz/fury/parker/joshua/povetkin those huge right hands he throws from way back are going to leave him off balance and very vunerable to counters . so while i think his power is legit i think his technique and disguise he uses on his power punches leaves me doubtfull he will land clean v top 5 fighters
Wilder can afford to wind up his punches like crazy against Boxrec #50 guys because he knows they won't be able to counter him. If he boxes a top 10 fighter he can't load up on the punches like that and he just runs and jabs that's why his mythical punching power magically disappears if he boxes anyone with a pulse.
He clearly has power and is one of the biggest punchers in the division. But on the elite level his power is yet to be really tested. Yes he's had some brutal KO's in Szpilka and Liakhovich but these guys were either known to be china chinned or shot. I think he does load up massively with his punches which is why he often throws himself off balance, sometimes so much so he hits the deck. Guys like Povetkin, Ortiz and Joshua throw with power but don't over balance they take something off their shots to stay in position and balanced, while Wilder will throw hail Mary shots with everything behind them even if it leaves him vulnerable, but of course the pay off for that is when he does land he does land with immense power. But it's easy to look like a puncher when facing weak opposition. Look at Parker, he was KOing people cold too, then stepped up a level and his power is far less impressive and he now looks more like an accumulative puncher. But I think Wilder does hit genuine hard, but how hard is yet to be seen. I guess we'll see what Wilder's power is really like when he faces Ortiz.
You're on the wrong track here. There's no doubt Povetkin hits hard, and if he were to face Wilder I still think even the current old man version beats him. But Povetkin does not have the power Wilder has. Even to just the eye test this is apparent. What Povetkin has is SKILL. He's levels above Wilder in what he does, and Povetkin is able to use skill and timing to land his punches just right. Punch placement > power all day long. That's why Sasha can do so much more than Wilder. You could possibly be right. When Wlad decides to really sit down on his punches, they are crushing. But again, ON AVERAGE, a guy like Wilder probably hits harder. Why? Because Wlad fights in a professional and calculated manner, and keeps his balance at all times. He is a true master boxer. He knows that to throw the kitchen sink into every punch will cost him his balance and his defence and leave him open to getting countered. Wilder just whirls away and hopes something sticks; it's not surprising he hits really hard. Wlad would have beaten Wilder even worse than Povetkin.
I don't think so.. If you notice most of the time when he hits with the straight right hands his opponents start to fold their waist and legs which its annoying af because then it makes it look like he inst landing flush and the punches look ugly af. I think he has power for sure.
He's not as efficient as AJ or Wlad, but for raw force? No doubt he hits harder. Look, when he LANDS: there's a fat ***** singing somewhere.
