What do you mean by: “Wilder isnt fighting anyone who is like louis today?”

Wilder indeed never fought anyone as good as Louis. Wilder got caught with a hefty punch by a fat SMW. Look what Louis did to LHW ATG JHL.

I just don’t know how Wilder will deal with lightening quick cannon fist combos on the inside. He never faced anything remotely close to Louis. Perhaps when he sparred Haye, but Haye is an appetizer compared to JL.

Why is Wilder constantly referred to as "athletic"? Is it because he is tall? He isn't particularly fast, doesn't seem very strong and has cr@p balance. Joe Louis seems far more athletic on film.

    No indeed.

He won't fight anybody ranked in the top ten for a start!

I haven't seen anything to convince me that Wilder would beat Buddy Baer or Tony Galento yet.

His resume is a sea of mediocrity.

No one under 6'3 is just going to stand there and try and use slow footing from mid range like louis did waiting on countering. Like i tell everyone on here ,go to the local gym and keep your hands down by waist and chest level...its not going to go good for you. Lets also take the 5 oz gloves in contrast here that would also effect the outcome and fight style.

Wilder wouldnt have to fight any one as good as louis bc louis chin would not hold up watching some of his fights. The question is would Louis land on wilder before he himself gets that power right? I dont like louis's footwork or parrying system here...i think wilder punches right through all that and gets the K.o.

Of course wilder in 2014 would lose but that not who were talking about here. wilder now is good enough to deal with a much shorter patient fighter who relied on guys standing still to an extent ..this is not wilder hes moving around alot..

Haye is also a in and out swarmer..he uses far greater distance by leaping in...this also wasnt louis. hed be far to patient with wilder letting him dictate the entire fight.

Well just look at the skills themselves its obvious wilder is more threatening than those guys.

    How so?

Why do you find Wilder particularly skillful?

What makes you think baer is more skillful is a better question? ...guy looks like he drank a few when he throws punches? wilder does have crips jab and straight right and knows how to set traps at least.

Its not just a case of Louis having the better resume.

Wilder's resume is literally as bad as it gets for a belt holder with a significant number of defenses, and Louis has the best resume in the history of the division.

Wilder has arguably set a new low for quality of title defenses.

It is not just that Wilder has a worse resume, he basically doesn't have one at world level!

Quite honestly, Buddy Baer may have been a step up in class from many of those Wilder has beaten. I honestly wouldn't be taken aback if I saw Buddy Baer give Wilder all he could handle.

You are the one asserting that Wilder is more skillful here.

That puts the onus on you to prove it.

The bottom like is that either of them could shatter Wilder's chin, and he would never take the fights, unless they were his mandatory!

I will go a step further, and ask whether you would even make Wilder favorite here?

Buddy Baer is in the top three of heavyweight history, in terms of first round knockouts!

Based on what i've seen so far, I'd pick Louis by KO in the first three.

That said, Wilder has some time to change my mind.

I don’t think you have the right grasp on Louis’s distance control, footwork or reflexes. And this is coming from someone who generally values your opinion.

Don’t you know how many fighters used efficient, low volume footwork, but combined with speed, reflexes and IQ? Mayweather looks like his feet are glued to the ring, until he needs to move them. Then he looks lightening quick. Same with Louis.

His balance is phenomenal. The whole “Louis had slow feet” stigma sometimes feels like an overshadow from Ali’s footwork.

Louis doesn’t keep his hands very low. You know who does? Modern fighters like Wilder and Hurd. Did you watch Hurd yesterday? Walked down Trout with his hands at his knees. If Hurd did the same exact thing, but in 1930, people would associate his low guard with the time period.

You’re right that Wilder has gotten better since 2014. Good enough to defeat Louis? Maybe. But probably not. And definitely not as easily as you imply, in my opinion. You’ve always been bullish on Louis, you’ll come around eventually, everyone always does! Even Buddy Baer went around when Louis hit him :D
