Beacuse Tillman probably did'nt take pro boxing seriously enough. Some Gold Medalists sometimes have a bad attitude and don't train hard, this is why many great amateur standouts have failed ( including Cuban ones ) but if they take it seriously enough, they can also be World Champions like Casamayor, Juan Carlos Gomez, Lewis, Foreman, Ali, Gamboa, De La Hoya etc. Most of the good amateur standouts become professional World Champions, so professional boxing is not miles ahead of amateur, just more rounds, no headgear and less protection...:bart

 

Vlad won the gold medal back in 1996, superheavyweight division.

 

Honestly, with all his flaws, I still think he can really make some noise in the division. Think of how little talent there is these days. Just based on his physical attributes alone he should be able to at least capture a belt someday.

And I don't really think he's ready for Solis yet. Maybe in a couple years, with some more work, but at this point, Solis can take him.

Well,Wilders couldnt hold a candle to Solis or Povetkin at the amateurs(nor can he at the pros),but Pulev and Helenius were no outstanding amateurs either-like Wilders.

 

I hope they give him some good competition and challenge him, it will only help him in the long run.

 

I get annoyed when some people try to hype a certain fighter because he has an American passport.
Wilders was a nobody at the amateurs.He got knocked down and out with headgear and a supercautious ref behind his back.........at the amateurs.
I dont write him off completely,but whoever hails him as the next big thing must get his head tested.

Well,names like Pulev and Helenius probably dont tell you much,eh! No black americans,eh!

briggs and lychovich have had 1 fight each in the last 2 years

 

The Only American who may become something hopefully in a few yrs we'll have a champ who brings the belt home.
