So if is he a bum. . . .then he is a bum like like Rocky Marciano was a bum and George Foreman was a bum. . . .similar records. . . .similar opponents coming up at this point in careers.
You're kidding right? Wilder is nearly ten years into his career!!! Ten years into his career George Foreman had RETIRED for the first time!! Marciano retired after 8 years, having essentially cleaned out the division, fighting all the top guys in his era. After 5 years Wilder was still fighting STIFFS - guys Foreman and Rocky were done with after a year or two!! Five years into his career, George Forman was fighting Muhammad Ali!!! Rocky Marciano was fighting Walcott and Charles!! Hell, even the shell of Joe Louis he fought in '51 is better than most of Wilder's "opposition."
yup.... the problem isnt who he ws facing on the way up or at what speed he was brought along, thats up to his handlers. The problem is he hasnt done jack **** since winning the title, he's had 5 **** defenses in a row!
He takes a lot of criticism, but do not dare utter Marciano's name in the same breath as this fraud. The reason why he gets so much criticism is due to the fact that he had so many fights and for the life of your dearest you'd struggle to find a credible name to justify the hype surrounding him and signify his arrival as a potential great fighter.
Marciano had limited options and Foreman fought top guys...wilder has NOT and has many options available in todays boxing and decided to avoid a wlad klitchko fight for a few years before Wilder bandwagoners jumped off his boat. No comparison to Marciano or Foreman, foreman had his share of ducks but he also fought relevant fighters and wasnt holding the main HW boxing belt.
In the 50's and 60-70's boxers could fight every three weeks or so. . . .so to make the comparison of timeframes is not relevant.
That argument might hold water for Marciano, not for Foreman - although I will still argue that even if you allowed for the compressed pace of careers, Wilder is STILL facing far worse opposition than Marciano. However, by the 70s, the money per fight had increased, and fighters did not fight as often. Joe Frazier for example, had under 40 fights in his entire career I believe. If Wilder were so well within the norm, he would not be such an obvious anomaly both historically and currently. Anthony Joshua is fighting Wlad a little over three years into his career while Wilder is still crushing cans after EIGHT years!!! I've followed boxing for 35 years and I've never seen anything like this. It's a SHAMEFUL fraud being perpetrated on the boxing public, and I can't believe anybody defends this.
Lol the people Rocky Marciano fought were way worse than anybody Wilder fought. Then your realize Marciano was losing and almost getting knocked out by fighters like Ted Lowry and Roland LaStarza. http://boxrec.com/media/index.php?title=Fight:19970 http://boxrec.com/media/index.php/Rocky_Marciano_vs._Roland_LaStarza_(1st_meeting) Wilder is fighter better fighters than these guys. Wlad spent his whole career fighting bums, Anthony Joshua has fought nothing but bums, various other fighters spent their lives fighting bums. Wilder is hated in America because he isn't white, Hispanic, Latino, Asian, or Middle Eastern. Wilder is hated in Europe because he doesn't live in Europe. Gerald Washington the guy Wilder fighting next is a big 6'6 plus 250 pound undefeated guy. Is he great? Who know because he isn't that experienced. Is he is any worse than guys like Ray Austin and Derrick Jefferson Wlad fought in title fights? Hell no. Joe Louis fought so many bums the fighters he fought were called "The Bum of the Month Club". He once fought a guy named Johnny Davis who was 3-3 in a title fight. Wilder is hated in boxing forums like this because it has become cool to hate him. Just like it has become cool to hate Donald Trump. Stupid people will just repeat something because somebody else said it. They aren't smart enough to go check out things themselves. Wilder's opposition is crap but there are tons of fighters in boxing history who fought worse opponents.
Wilder does deserve criticism.. however.. this forum goes totally overboard on it. Wilder is at the elite level for a reason, you don't get to where he is without being at that level. Most of the comments on here are aimed at getting other peoples heckles up, so they make stupid remarks.
Marciano was an undersized guy who took advantage of a transitional period in the heavyweight division, carving a path through a number of contenders that were seen as either lacking in comparison to their predecessors or past their best. Wilder cherry picked his way through the rankings fighting the worst possible opposition that he could get away with on route to dethroning an ill paper champion before making a series of **** poor defences against the worst people he could find ranked by the WBC. The huge difference here is that Wilder does have good options available to him, legit opposition is plentiful but he chooses to repeatedly scrape the bottom of off he barrel like the flat track bully he is. Say what you want about Tyson Fury but at least he had the balls to go after the real champ as a contender even if he also took the path of least resistance to do it.
He is supposed to be the heavyweight champ but he had a gym fight with a 170 pound internet troll with mental issues. LOL. BUM SQUAD. And he still fought like a windmill.
People trying to slander Marciano to defend Wilder lmao. The absurdity. Marciano a man who went into the ring every single time as the smaller opponent and went 6-0 vs 4 future hall of famers. Against a 6'7 fraud that hoppped on a plain and flew back home when his opponent tested for .0000001 mg of Meldonium an over the counter heart medication. Big fail thread.
I feel like I'm the only one who's not seeing the hype surrounding him. I don't even feel he's hyped in the US.
