Deontay Wilder- The Delusion...

I've lost count of the number of threads I've seen about him on here - Yanks genuinely believe he is their best HW prospect despite a laughably padded record and non-existent chin. Compare that to someone like Malik Scott, who is infinitely more skilled yet 80% (this tine last year 100%) of the threads on him are created by me, and not even that regularly.

 

Yeah, I hate it too when certain people talk about "athleticism." "Slick" is another word that is thrown around a lot. In Wilder's last fight the crowd was booing because of the awkward innaction. And yet he is suppossed to be somehow more "athletic" and "slick."

That being said, I still have hopes for Wilder, but Price and Fury are both better prospects...well, actually, Fury is a legit contender already.

 

I didn't say you had. However, he's far from unknown to the boxing press, even in this country. Before Price's last fight there was a large article in a mainstream sports paper, part of which listed the five best prospects at heavyweight. Price, Fury, Pulev and Deontay were all there (I can't remember the fifth, maybe Mitchell). Whether we agree or not, he's seen as being in the same bracket as these guys, i.e. a top prospect, future contender. This is at least partly due to the buzz he's been getting in the States.

 

I don't think I've ever heard anyone refer to Wilder as slick, but Christ Almighty you just don't hear the end of how athletic he is, as though that nebulous and often misused adjective has some all important meaning in a skills-based sport like boxing.

How athletic is Wilder anyway? Looks quite awkward on his feet to me.

This interview just tells you everything that is wrong about the bloke and a number of Americans. A few points from the interview

- Would be willing to fight the Klitschko's tomorrow and thinks he could win
- Klitschko's learnt a lot off him sparring together
- Different between him, Price and Fury, according to Wilder is he has much more power in his right hand (Than Price, is he for real) better balance and athleticism (perhaps) and better skills
Man thats why i cant respect guys like Wilder and Scott. Talking **** but fighting only bums. If he is that good why he does not fight anyone decent?

- Except that Whiteman completely misquoted Wilder & took another quote out of context.

Try actually listening to the interview, instead of the bull**** that Whiteman is tossing around. You'll change your mind.

 

Yeah, I don't understand why he can't find some middle ground here. It's all talk about potential fights with Fury, Price, Jennings, title shots etc, then these fights all fall through and he takes on his some complete no hoper with a ton of losses on his resume and a belly the size of Alaska.

I mean god sake, why the massive swing? There are tons of solid journeymen in the top 100, top 50 even, who'd be more than willing to step in at late notice. All this nonsense about top guys running scared is wearing thin. And frankly what does Wilder bring to the table that they should even entertain fighting him on equal terms in the first place?

Thought the dude was getting it together finally with the Price fight, but he's just taken a massive step backwards here. An experience builder this is not.
