Deontay Wilder: the next big thing or just a hype?

This is a common theme with Wilder fans though: "He needs more time!". He has had quite a lot of time already, if he really needs THAT much time to develope, how good is he really gonna be? The heavyweight division may be weak, but even still all of the contenders have overlapped Deontay twice already, he really needs to get his rear in gear if he wants to stand any chance of becoming even relevant in the long term heavyweight division

Price was beaten down by Thompson, so that bubble is burst, but we have never seen Wilder even close to fighting someone who could possibly do that to him, Price was exposed because at least he took that risk

    Good post. :good
I would rather see Wilder take his time and develop into a great American Heavyweight, than see him burn out early and we are left with nothing.

Im not even sold on his power.

If hes able to destroy Liak, then Ill believe a bit more, but really.... everything about him is an unkown quantity at this point as far as im concerned.

While im picking Wilder to win, it wouldn't surprise me at all if liakhovich gave him problems this weekend. He is entirely untested.

Again, Martinez was 34 before he hit his stride. Tony Thompson became a player after 35. Anyway, Schaefer says he wants to match Wilder with the winner of Mitchell vs. Arreola. So it looks like Wilder critics will get their wish sooner rather than later.

Just about ANYBODY in the top 30:

Seriously, how anyone could argue that Wilder's resume is not unusually pathetic - particularly for an Olympic medalist FIVE YEARS into his "career" is beyond me.

Ever think that his handlers know something, which is why they keep him away from anybody decent???

Wilder is hype. He refused to fight Thompson or even Chisora! He won't fight Jennings, and he was toyed with by Vlad in sparring for the Wach fight. Wach would beat Wilder. Why should Wilder fight anyone who can fight back when he will be ranked for fighting bums...........Wilder has been promised a title shot without fighting anyone in the top 30!

I don't think he gets by Andy Ruiz Jr. should they meet soon. Andy has much greater skills than Wilder.

I'd like to see Wilder take on Boystov and if successful, then someone like Fury or Chisora.

Wilder does have bunching power but anyone that knows anything about boxing knows he lacks skills. He is a brawler. What happens when he gets in with someone that can avoid his punches and put some heat on him. I would like to see him in with Arreola to be honest. Arreola would be his make or break fight. Wilder seems to be slow to step up for some reason. We just don't know. Price looked great until he stepped up. My best guess is thAt he is another Michael Grant or Tye Fields.

Well I think he beats fragile Boystov in one round. Not sure why Boystov gets so much hype. Like Wilder he has beat no one.

If Wilder was white you would be hyping him spambot.
