you are correct sir, thanks. So to add context to why wilder fought brezeale, it was a mandatory….so it’s justified.
Of course it is, I never knocked Wilder for fighting him. You have to fight your mandatories. It was one of his best defences in my opinion. But still we can't pretend Breazeale was some kind of a world beater.
Cruiser doesn't get much shine because of fighters like Mormeck, Haye's best CW win and a blown up LHW, who was one of Wlad's weakest defences along with Pianeta and Leapai and had previously scraped hometown decisions against Oquendo and Timur Ibragimov. Harrison, 34-6 Barrett, final fight 8 loss John Ruiz, final fight Valuev and Chisora is Haye's HW record. Wilder also destroyed Harrison, who might scrape into Wilder's top 15 wins but certainly not his top 5. Liakhovich was a former titlist who went on to give Ruiz a good fight but people don't rate the win highly and understandably so, even though Wilder erased him in 1 round. Wilder has a draw against the lineal champ and a historic trilogy, which adds a lot to legacy. They both have 4 losses at it stands but Haye ducked Fury and 3 of his losses were to Carl Thompson and Bellew. Chisora is Haye's best win for me, certainly top 2. But he's not on a par with Ortiz, who he said he'd never fight and was a top 5/6 ranked HW for 5+ years. Ortiz 1, Ortiz 2, Stiverne, Duhaupas, Helenius, Szpilka, Washington, Breazeale, Arreola, Molina Chisora, Valuev, Ruiz, Barrett, Harrison, Mormeck, Fragomeni, Maccarinelli, Johansen, Gurov I don't see how one can judge Haye's list of wins as being stronger in absolute terms. Haye was a unified CW titlist and HW titlist with 3 combined defences. Wilder was a HW titlist with 10 consecutive defences, which in terms of legacy counts for a lot more other things being equal.
Obviously not a world beater as he never beat a world champ. But an earned title shot/defence non the less as he was mandatory.
Haye was a unified CW champion not a titlist, as he also earned a claim to the lineage. He was a titlist at HW.
Terrible comparison as Usyk cleaned out CW before moving up, even fighting "WBC emeritus" Bellew. He could have fought Cunningham in a big undisputed fight but fought a HW journeyman instead which didn't get him any closer to Wlad, and then "pulled out" against Wlad next year, finally fighting him 2 years after that.
Haye was a top dog at CW, he didn't need an IBF belt to confirm his status. I can agree pulling out in 2009 was embarrassing tho.
If he thought Cunningham was a mug he'd have fought him. This was a guy who made a title defence against Audley. It was pure risk-reward, there was always an asterisk if he didn't fight Cunningham. His resume was also weaker than Cunningham's at the time.
Yes, but regardless of what you think of Mormeck, he was a quality, credible champ. Wilder has fought no quality, credible champions.
It doesn't translate for me. I rate beating HW titlist Stiverne coming off two Arreola wins more highly than beating CW titlist Mormeck.
