He is extremely protected. There is no way around that fact.

He is so protected that they honestly wouldn’t be doing him any favours if he had a decent chin!

They don't put him in with anybody who has a pulse unless it is unavoidable, and then he basically has to wing it!

I think this is the probable outcome.

Box rec editors can put in whatever height they wish. He who changes a page last wins. I have more sources saying he was 6'1" tall or greater.

Keep in mind one is shorter in the evening, and shrinks a bit with age. Yet there are photo's of Jeffries long after he retired, with Jack Dempsey and others and he's even with Dempsey, who is listed at 6'1" tall. For the Johnson fight, Farmer Burns gave a full tale of the tape measurement and had him 6'1 1/2" tall.

Wilder was KO'd cold by a sub 200-pound men the amateurs. Today Jeffries would easily outweigh him.

Everyone in boxing knows Wilder has a glass jaw, which is why he selected on punchers or fringe contender typed who are not big punchers and have modest skills. Even still he gets black eyes and rocked. It is my opinion Wilder can't take a good body shot either. He's rail thin.

In his career, I have not seen Wilder open a cut of signficnagece. Keep in mind back in Jeffries day there was no vaseline, and the gloves made of horse hair split or got nicked, which is why there were cuts. In addition, enswell and the paste-like the stuff used for cuts wasn't invented!

So if we are saying Jeffries is fighting in 2017, cuts are way less of an issue to him, or we can transport Wilder to 1900, without a mouth guard, and lighter / more dangerous gloves magnifying that suspect chin.

I think Jeffries would probably beat Wilder.

Not that I have seen much of JJ, but DW has been pitched in against such a selection of stiff and bums in the main, that I doubt he'd know what to do if somebody like Jeffries took it to him.

It would be interesting to see how Jeffries would react to being hit by a prime, bigger, heavy duty puncher too!

Is it really that much of a game changer in a fighter who often fought from a crouch?

If he fought bolt upright, then an extra inch or two might make a difference, in that it would have made Fitzsimmons work uphill more.

This contested inch migth already have taken up too much of our time.

Sharkey at 5'8"was 11inches shorter than Wilder and around 45lbs lighter ! Sharkey went the distance twice with Jeffries and many thought he deserved at least a draw in one of the fights.
Gene Tunney said Jeffries career is based on beating up smaller, older men ,and he was right!

    in 1918 jeffries kills wilder.

today, wilder gets protected long enough to last the fight, but loses on points.

By1918 Jeffries had enough trouble bending down to do his shoelaces up!

Sharkey was a hall of fame heavyweight with a might punch, tough as nails. Jeffries fought him once and beat him while he was green, and put him in the hospital in the re-match with the title on hand.

Perhaps you are unaware that Jeffries hurt his shoulder in round two after flooring Sharkey, and the arm was close to cooked spaghetti for the rest of the fight. He beat Sharkey in his prime. And he likely ruined him as he was never that same after the beating, which would be a TKO today as Sharkey was out on his feet at least twice, half blind and swollen up like a grapefruit. Then the man was tough, defining going the distance.

Do I really need to show you other champions taking non-hall of fame level opponents the distance?

Yeah, let's take a look at Dempsey vs Willard. For openers, Willard was 37 years old and had not fought in three years. Can you say old, and rusty? Furthermore, he already had FIVE losses in 1 draw in 31 fights. How many times did Dempsey need to land to stop him? 100+? If you look at Jeffries he has some real ten counts and injured many.

As for Wilder, did he ever stop a top ten opponent who was ranked int he top ten by Ring Magazine or Fight New when he fought them?

NO, his power is built upon journeyman, not proven vs the best, and ever since he starting fighting top 20-40th ranked guys, he has needed 9-12 rounds to stop them, while getting rocked himself when they rarely land or a black eye. I only view his power as good, not great in Lewis, Klitschko, Tyson, Joshua's, or even Povetkin's class who in my opinion would have finished the same mean much sooner, and been ahead more on the score cards.

As for being 6'7" tall, does that mean your picking Wilder vs guys 6'2" and under?
