Lets just say hypothetically speaking that Povetkin beats Whyte again, and Fury gets too pissed off with Wilder fight and decides to not bother fighting him. What would you think the outcome would be of Povetkin vs Wilder?
I think Povetkin has a shot of killing Wilder off early if he goes for it. But if not, then I see Povetkin getting KO'd.
Wilder is not skilled as Wlad or AJ. Weak defence. Even Duhaupas almost knocked him out. Povetkin would definitely KO Wilder.
This. A few years ago I'd have picked Sasha without hesitation. At this point he has no business knocking out guys at the highest level ... even though he's actually doing it. So, yeah, he might get Wilder early, but in a linger fight I think Wilder's youth wins it for him.
If this happens and Povetkin beats Wilder, he'll become my favourite boxer. At the moment it's a tie for Fury and Povetkin, but this would put Povetkin at the top for me.
Wilder KO in under three rounds. He's just too tall, with too much of a reach advantage. I don't think an old Povetkin has the movement to get on the inside. The first right hand that lands clean will KO him
Wilder uses his height and feet better than Whyte. Wilders whole career has basically been outlasting and imposing his physical advantages over his opponent, even if they are fundamentally much better than him. I don't care how good you are, Wilder can explode on ANYONE at any given time, unless you take him out of the fight like Fury did. Would have been an interesting fight when it was supposed to happen years ago. I think he'd wait Povetkin out & take his head off mid/late. Povetkin would look good early against Wilder...but as with all these fundamentally solid heavyweights like Ortiz, if you're in front of Wilder for 12 rounds he will probably tag you. Wilder has pretty much spent his whole career using his height as his major defence. He got beat by small technical guys like Povetkin as an amateur. But over the years he has learnt to keep out of distance. Leaning back whilst your feet are a step behind is typically a defensive weakness, but Wilder can get away with it, just not against another big man like Wlad or Fury. Povetkin isn't a big man though. Wilder looks dodgy on his feet trying to evade Povetkin for the first 6 rounds then the inevitable happens. This content is protected Not Fury.
I wouldn't be confident of Pov winning this right now, mainly because he needs some speed and reflexes to dodge that raking RH and close in and not sure how much he's slowed. But if he slips inside and lands a big one, he obviously can win. The Pov from years ago I'd consider the favourite.
Badr hari is another of those guys that I love to hate. When Overeem kicked his head in I was bouncing around in my chair ...
Wilder has hight advantage, but is it really an advantage? I imagine it's hard to punch or jab downwards and Povetkin often lowers his body. It would be hard for Povetkin to go for the head, but maybe some solid bodypunches could tire Wilder. I dont know, I'd favor Wilder today to beat Povetkin. I thought differently few years ago.
