Deontay feeds on shorter fighter. This Russian was pummeled by a chinny bodybuilder in just 7 rounds remember!
Whyte is apparently rubbish, but he had Povetkin down twice before the bout got so easy that he just about fell asleep, before he was almost put to sleep. Povetkin also suffered a knockdown against David Price. But he's favourite to beat Wilder? Based on stopping Hughie Fury? Wait... Good joke.
I'd said if they fought Feb last year, I may slightly favour Povetkin because his style is all about educated aggression, which is exactly what destroys Wilder. But now, it's impossible to say.
I btw think that Dorticos might KTFO Wilder with 40% chances. Why joke? Povetkin really needed to retire when he reached 37 y. age. If prime versions of Huck, Pov, Briedis ( yeah ), then Wilder had been stopped in distance. Briedis will steamroll him like a pupp in clinch. That's simple. Yeah, from small country, not well known therefore must be a bum. Prime Pov had better resources and was more agile, fast and productive than 37 y.o and older his versions. With excellent body mechanics automatisiation. Wilder was hometown superstar per se, Pov was world superstar under amateur rules and was unlucky to be in Klit brothers era. Might Wilder beat prime Lewis or Tyson, Holmes from 1977-1980 etc alike. He will not go to beat Holy pre horsemeat CW version nor prime Usyk version. Frazier from 70 ies most likely had broken his ribs, Huck in prime shape before he had prime Glowacki and Briedis , then also Usyk in the ring too most likely had broken his ribs with a glance. Especially if bearing in mind that Povetkin, Huck and Briedis were amateur kickboxers, thing damn more brutal than am boxing because legs does not have AIBA approved amateaur boxing gloves. BTW, most watchable versions of these mentioned were amateur KBers. Cool and fast, brutal stoppages had happened. Wilder is not bad chin, his chin I think even is undervalued as hell, a bit laughable. He also despite had spoon feed hometown fights, looks really was willing to fight. Actually Wilder likes me a bit, he just started to be very strange after fights vs Fury. OK, he had lost but guy looked willing to fight despite had been down etc so I do not go to disrespect him. Only thing he does have in A level is right hand for medium - long distance with need for distance to gave his hand to work. It is like Pulev. Yeah, he is old, but he was willing to fight and he is not bad. Only thing he had for real A level was JAB. With this is not enough.
Wilder favourite against Povetkin based on what? Going live and death with Ortiz, who had blood pressure issues just before fight, whose only notable win his whole career against Jennings over 5 years ago (if you can call that notable). Or getting out boxed by poor opponents Spzilka and Washington before he stopped them? Or getting dropped by poor journeyman in Scroiners and Nichols? Or made to do the chicken dance against Molina or have his faced busted up by a french walking punch bag? Even funnier joke.
I don't believe that you're so obtuse that you actually believe Ortiz was having genuine blood pressure issues. Are you? This is a clear and common justification for TUE. Nowhere in my post did I say that Wilder is a heavy favourite in a bout with Povetkin, but he's certainly no underdog. I would favour Wilder, quite considerably, but it's far from a foregone conclusion and it is competitive. But how can Povetkin be favoured and so strongly? Digging up citations from a bygone era, where one of the times he was "dropped" was actually a slip and was not declared a KD by the referee, does not strengthen your argument. This sort of thing makes me believe that you are incredibly biased, because you regularly do the same thing with Fury, citing the Cunningham bout. You choose not to consider context. What makes you believe that Povetkin is such a sure bet not to eventually be knocked out, like many others? The guy is much shorter than Wilder and has stamina issues, and doesn't have great punch resistance. Yet it's so obvious that he would knock out Wilder?
I hope Wilder goes after fights like this one. Povetkin is not the fighter he once was but he’s a big enough name and Wilder could catch him with a big shot or two and end the fight. Full disclosure, I favor Povetkin but anything is possible. Wilder looked bad in the last Fury fight but I’m not totally writing him off just yet. He’s still very athletic and has monster power. If he’s still got the ability and desire to fight, this type of fight will prove it. If he doesn’t, Povetkin will knock him out. This is what makes Boxing exciting. Seeing a cherry picker knock out an outmatched opponent (Canelo’s last fight, most of Tank Davis’ fights, most of Crawford’s recent fights, etc) is bad for boxing.
You mention Price giving Povetkin the standing count and being dropped by Whyte as a slight in analysing him as fights. Yet when I do the same with Wilder or Fury as it's not considering context?
Wilder in his life had only 2 real top 10 boxers in the pro ring. 40 y.o Ortiz who appeared enough old to beat up him. Supposedly out of shape and rusty Fury. Appeared he was not enough old. Nothing more.
Right, & I think it is foolish to use Sasha's loss against a still great Wlad as instructive about anything. Especially because he was permitted a disgraceful amount of cheating, clinching, holding, grappling, pulling... He should have been warned a couple of times early, has points deducted, then disqualified if he continued. How can you even be confident you know who was better head to head when only one fighter is constantly thwarting offense through the "defense" of cheating?
Today for my Wilder wins, at the time when the fight was cancelled I was one of the few who gave the winner to Povetkin.
Right now Wilder. Povetkin looked markedly slower and sloppier in his last few fights, and following a layoff and hospitalisation for Covid I wouldn't want to make any bets on a positive outcome for him. Back in the day Povetkin would have been my favourite, but not markedly so.
Wlad then was with rare skills in HW division: he was very good standup " wrestler " and vs 36 y.o Wlad this gigantic 35 y.o Wach did NOTHING, despite he was larger than Wlad and heavier than Wlad. Wlad was 37 y.o, looks not in prime but yet not over the hill unlike ha was year later. Being larger and talented in chinch game & stuff called standup wrestling, he used this with a glance vs Povetkin. To be honest he had relatively rare talent for this game too.
