If Tua is motivated I think he knocks Wilder out personally, his short stature would actually work in his favour I think. Wilder would have more problems landing that sweeping right hand on the much shorter fighter I believe. Tua also has an iron chin so I don't think single punches would be enough to get Tua out of there, I see Tua catching up to Wilder and stopping him at some point in the 2nd half of the fight.
Wilder's power would change alot of fights but I don't think that's the case with Tua, as I said above he has an iron chin so I don't think single punches would be enough. Wilder would have to be consistently hitting Tua I believe.
Agreed on that, his chin was incredible and I just struggle to see Wilder finding his target consistently.
I think that Wilder has the stylistic advantage here, and I would probably bet on that. Trying to pressure Wilder strikes me as being a thankless task.
Tua's resume is so superior that this is not even a legit comparison. His hook knocked out better guys than Deontay's right. Tua also has a far better chin. You could make the argument that with his build, Wilder could jab his way to victory, but, he is so stupid he doesn't really make a lot of his jab. Tua in a surprisingly easy fight.
Wilder not having a jab is one of the biggest myths in boxing. It’s no Liston or Holmes but it’s criminally underrated
Exactly a 6'7 fighter isn't landing body shots on a fighter who's 5'10, and like you said Wilder isn't known for his body punching. Wilder isn't really a box and move type like Lewis or Byrd, he'd be more aggressive vs Tua and that would be very dangerous game for Wilder to play.
I find it hilarious people call Wilder unproven when he came within a whisker of knocking out probably the best Heavyweight in the world today, on at least 3 different occasions, dropped him 4 times, and came closer than anyone to beating him (with the possble exception Fury's last fight), while Tua on the other hand was badly outboxed by Lewis, was content to stay in a shell for virtually the entire fight, won 3 rounds across all three judges, was badly outboxed and hurt by ****ing Byrd of all people, received a gift against Rahman, was being badly outboxed by Maskaev before gassing, and his greatest wins were over a shot 37 year old Moorer, and a green Ruiz. Yet Wilder's the proven one.
I agree. I think he either goes into a shell like he did against Lewis and loses a UD, or pursues aggressively and eats a right hand that just about takes his head off.
He’s good at setting up the right hand but his jab is highly inconsistent. Against a guy like Tua who can move and bang I imagine him struggling.
