The Machen who survived the wrath of a prime Liston for 10 rounds. Could he school Wilder or would Wilder eventually stretch Machen out?

If Machen can last 10 rounds with Liston, he is likely to box circles around Wilder.

If Machen couldn't even last one round against Ingo, he's unlikely to last very long against Wilder.

    Bombs away.
    Wilder KO.
Liston didn't have the killer finishing instincts Wilder has.

But, he has 10 times more skill to implement a knockout punch than the wildly amateurish Wilder.

The greatest pastime here is overrating unproven fighters.

Ordinarily I am realistic about these things and give the much bigger, modern guy the advantage, but Machon knew so much more about scientific boxing, and has so much more experience in an era when good fighters fought each other (Patterson's reign not withstanding) that I am very tempted to say Machon boxes circles around him.

The real answer is that even if they shared an era, the fight would not have happened unless Machon gained 50-60 pounds, or developed a blood-pressure problem.

Wilder by late KO similar to the Szpilka fight. Machen was a crafty and fairly elusive fighter so i think Wilder would have some problems at the beginning...but only if Machen would fight as negative as it gets (literally running).

Machen couldnt win the belt in a weak era but he "schools" wilder?

Machen was a smart, crafty fighter but he lost to B level guys like Zora Folley and karl mildenberger. He made a habit of losing when he stepped up in competition. He only went the distance with liston because he was in pure survival mode and hardly engaged. He was koed by johanson and frazier, guys who would be cruiserweights today.

A single big right hand from wilder would either end the fight, or spook machen and make him get on his bicycle and lose a wide ud. He is giving up height, reach, and weight and doesnt have the chin or tenacity to step to wilder and make him pay for those big swings.

Id even give quarry a better chance of pulling something off, at least he was brave and had a good record against punchers.

Hard to say, my first thought would be the size difference and tremendous power of Wilder but Wilder has not really fought anyone with the skill set of Machen perhaps his most skilled was Ortiz at 40 yrs old who was also not really experienced as a pro and Ortiz blew the chance.....I like Wilder as a personality & power puncher but quality of opposition is far less than AJ. I think WIlder prevails impressivly but that would be a guess
