Deontay Wilder vs Joe Frazier

Lewis had a fine jab and could hit with both hands, Wilder is really just a one shot guy, big right and that's it.
Also Lewis was as strong as an ox. Lewis would contain Frazier as he did Tua.

 

Well he never landed the right hand on the inside didn't he, so he must've kept all these guys on the outside to land his punch.

 

The sport has transitioned in some cases to great athletes with a punch. Or just great athletes in a boxing ring... When have these great HW's or WW's of today have really been tested with boxing skill?... The fact of the matter is that competition, activity and a lot of boxing skill has just been lost.. The old saying goes, The proof is in the pudding. And when Wilder had to step up in competition against Fury, he looked like sh*t trying to land the telegraphed outside bomb followed up with a sloppy hook …It would be a simple head bob and weave for Frazier coming in and Wilder would be forced to fight off his back foot and inside all night … The difference in boxing skill here is monumental

 

Frazier used the cross armed defense while weaving to evade Ali`s jabs he`d do the same to get inside against Lewis, he would catch Lewis as much as Mavrovic did.

 

Frazier would slip shots the same way Fury did except he`d be in more danger because he`d be coming forwards but then again he`d get inside Wilder`s long right hand and would get undderneath shots too.

 

They couldn`t get under his long jab and right hands the way Frazier would.

 

Frazier was used to being the shorter guy working his way in. He wouldnt try to stand up and box Wilder. He is gonna make himself even shorter and try to get DW to punch down. Taking away some of his leverage.
Not Sure If it matters to Joe Weather his opponent is 6 foot 4. Or six foot seven. Wilders power will be significant though. That's something that Frazier would have to watch for.
I guess it would come down to how Wilder handles Frazier's pressure and also if Deontay lands on the button will Joe be able to survive that moment.

 

PSA: Frazier's height would be a serious disadvantage against Wilder.

 

Lewis regularly destroyed left hookers. He also would have had 5 inches in height and on a given night anywhere from 25-35 lbs on Joe. Ad to that his tremendous power and boxing skill and this is a mismatch

 

until he gets hit by one of them.

 

Lewis had polished boxing skills. He was a master of distance. Used his jab and knew when to tie up

 

What about on the inside? Does Wilder have a "serious advantage" at close quarters as well? Being taller is good in the trenches.

he’d have practically every imaginable advantage both physically and stylistically over Frazier. About the only thing Joe might have over Lennox is handspeed, but all considering who cares ? This is one of the worst mismatches between heavyweight greats that one could make .

 

I think the 5 punches a round Wilder throws would be a problem for him. It would be magnified in a matchup like this with a buzzsaw.

 

I agree never an easy task when your style is coming forward and your not always a fast starter but Frazier of the FOTC and before he took good shots from Quarry -Bonavena down 2x 1st fight- Ellis- Ramos- Bob Foster- Doyle-Chuvalo- I also believe Wilder hit harder then them all but Wilder was KO'd by 6ft (maybe less) Romanov in the amateurs. My thing is very hard to see how good a fighter takes a punch by a good puncher or someone who is able to land - In this case both men would be subject to awkward shots. I like Wilder but I also thought much of Joshua after beating Vlad and Whyte and Povetkin and he got KO'd by Andy so like Tyson says " it all changes once they get hit" Boxing is a learning game and sometimes i'm very right and sometimes very wrong
