"Multiple sources have told AL.com that a deal is being finalized for Deontay Wilder to host his upcoming title defense at Birmingham's Legacy Arena against Frenchman Johann Duhaupas. Wilder (34-0, 33 KO) will make his defense on Sept. 26. The fight will be televised on NBC in the Premier Boxing Champions series. A formal announcement is expected within a few days." I almost can't believe that this is happening, if in fact it is, as details and sources indicate. This would be an almost complete farce if Duhaupas was given a full 8-10 week training, let alone a 3-4 week camp. This man is not even remotely qualified to be facing a heavyweight champion. This a guy who recently lost a decision to Erkan Teper as well as Francesco Pianeta.
How will Eric Molina or Johann Duhaupas prepare him for Alexander Povetkin, his apparent nemesis? My view is that neither help him to adapt to the style, power, or ferociousness that Povetkin will bring to the table.
Shock the world, as in win the bout? The same guy who lost decisions to Teper and Pianeta, and barely beat Charr on pts? This match seems like an atrocious farce and worse than an Arreola bout to me.
Wilder is a damn disgrace. It's embarrassing as an American fight fan to see him manuever his way through a minefield of lifeless bodies of chumps on his resume to somehow earn a shot at the title. By the grace of God he ends up fighting a very physically ill Stiverne, who himself is really nothing special. He then faces Molina and almost gets put down by the bum, and now off to yet face another bum.
Wilder. The long awaited, black american heavyweight savior. Here to deliver us from Klitschko, a man that many braindead users on here claim is fighting bums. HA.
He was robbed by Pineta, and tper was very closed. If you ahv enot noticed, Teper is now himself a top contender and has comparable skills to Wilder, accept a much better chin. Yup, I think the Frenchman has got this.
Teper is not a top contender. He KOed Glass Jawed David Price. That doesn't make you a top contender.
