I love that "Luckily Vitalis face was messed up", it makes it sound like he turned up like it or tripped up on the way back to his corner and landed face first on his stool. Who ripped his face to pieces?
I agree. The fight was fairly stopped and Vitali couldn't complain. But the fact Vitali was weak for cuts saved Lennox in that fight. If Vitali didn't get those cuts so easy then the fight wouldn't be stopped. Like the Diaz brothers i UFC. One clean punch and a cut opens. Lennox was caught with just as many power puches as Vitali, but didn't get any cut like Vitali did. That way Lennox was lucky, that Vitali's face was messed up. And if he felt he really was the better boxer that night why didn't he take the rematch then? For me Lennox is one of the most overrated boxers. People are rating him like he beated a prime Holyfield and a prime Tyson. Both where nowhere near their prime when they fought Lewis. He also lost vs 2 journeymans and only won over Vitali because of the cuts. I am not that impressed.
anders, with respect, that is a part of boxing, stopping somebody on damage you've inflicted. Lewis inflicted those injuries with punches. Vitali's face wasn't ripped to pieces by Lewis' head or elbows and Lewis got away with it. Vitali hit Lewis with everything he had and couldn't shift him, in return an old, out of shape, about to retire Lewis shredded him. Yes you are correct, Lewis did get beaten twice, by two men who shouldn't have beaten him, Lewis paid a heavy price for his arrogance on both occasions but avenged both defeats. You say about Holyfield and Tyson not being in their primes and that is very true but how many "prime" fighters did either of them beat? And who were they? But they are held in very high regard. You can sit there and pick holes in Lewis' record and achievements and you have every right to have an opinion but I think you are judging Lewis very harshly. Lewis was a three time world champion, undisputed world champion, avenged the only 3 blemishes on his record and retired the champion of the world. It's hard not to be impressed by that in my humble opinion.
Wilder with a punchers' chance but I would expect the fight to look like Lewis-Grant. Lewis by early KO.
My point is that Lewis got caught with just as many punches as Vitali and was beaten up as much. The only difference was that Vitali was weak for cuts and Lewis wasn't. If it wasn't for the cuts then the fight would've continued. But as i said Vitali couldn't complain about the stoppage. It just bother me that Lewis didn't took the rematch to prove he was the better fighter. Besides past-prime Holyfield and Tyson who else on Lewis' recordlist is impressive wins? Tyson won vs Holmes, Spinks and prime Tucker. Spinks was undefeated and came from two decision wins over Holmes. Holmes lost for the first time after 20 titel defences. Holyfield win over 1996 Tyson was more impressive than Lewis' win over 2002 Tyson. Bowe, Foreman (very old, but still managed to win the world title and defend it more than 3 years after), Michael Moore.
I suppose Wilder could land a lucky punch, flatten Lewis and the fanboys would cream themselves. 8/10 I think Lewis takes care of him though
Wilder is way worse than the prime versions of McCall and Rahman that sprung upsets on Lewis. He has no chance in hell, none. Wilder is comparable to Michael Grant.. Tall, athletic, powerful. Although I think Grant in his prime was a better talent and way more coordinated and less goofy than Wilder. Wilder is only champion because the division opened up at the right time and subpar fighter was holding a strap, Grant would have beaten Stiverne too. Anyways, Lewis KO1. Wilder wouldn't survive as long as Grant did.
I think Wilder would last longer than Grant. Wilder would likely know he can't match Lewis in terms of power and strength being at least 15lbs lighter, he would get manhandled badly, so he'd look to move and box. That would likely see him last a few rounds before Lewis overwhelms him. Lewis KO's Wilder in 3-5 rounds.
Big LL fan, and I think he would win by early KO. But, Wilder is the kinda guy that could very well upset Lewis
wilder is ay too inaccurate to cause lennox trouble. at bst he could do a vitali, thorw himself desperately at lennox for a few rounds, but not sure if he has the chin for that option.
