Lewis would smash Wilder with a surprise right hand, just about the time Wilder decided to open up. Fury dropped Wilder, I don't know how many times. Much more, Lewis.
Lennox is without question the more complete guy. Sure there is a chance that he could get caught by an overhand right but my money would be on Lewis.
I think I might be in the corner of those who see this perhaps going like a Lewis vs Grant or Ruddock. I could see Wilder bring out the mongrel in Lewis (Besides being punchers themselves, Tua and Tyson had far better chins than Wilder so Lenox was duly cautious and measured) - I would probably bet big on at least one, highly damaging hold and uppercut move from Lewis - but I think there would be likely be a few. The Old Lion could get a touch rough in there on occasion as and when he saw fit.
Lewis blasted out a cold Ruddock, good win but that was before his two right hand one shot losses. So lets get into some detail He jumped on McCall and got taken out He jumped on Akinwande and the ref missed a brief knock down when Lewis touched the canvas after getting wobbled by a punch on top of his head He jumped on HBO Hype job Grant and was briefly stunned in the opening round He jumped on Tomato can crusher Briggs and was wobbled pretty good at the beginning He was wobbled by a Rahman jab right at the beginning of their second fight. He jumped on arm puncher VK and was wobbled a couple of times right out of the gate Not one single above fighter has the speed or power or the perfect right hand of Wilder Conclusion: Lewis is not coming out guns blazing, he is gonna box and trying to set up traps and might very well succeed but his chin aint taking one right hand, Lewis goes down and stays down, has never risen from a KO and continued.
I dunno. Despite being a one trick pony Ruddock was quick in there with more tools than Wilder. Good scrap, Ruddock vs Wilder. I think Ruddock fought like a fool and jumped in leaving his chin exposed. Trainers were brought in and kept leaving like a revolving door. Lennox felt threatened or at least challenged by the big guys and gets to Wilder first. Very dangerous fight for Lennox but he'll find a way...I think...
How was Ruddock cold? No colder than any other fighter who gets hurt and stopped early. Ruddock was actually acceptably busy before getting caught by Lewis’ well committed downward right hand in the first round. For McCall 1 Lewis wasn’t in the greatest shape and lacked focus. He was too complacent. The aggression wasn’t disciplined and lacked any due respect in terms of defence. Grant was a good puncher - he caught Lewis, briefly stunned Lewis, as you said but then Lennox came back stronger and harder (my point re having the mongrel in him - especially when under duress and when the opposition ramps up their own offence). I just reviewed rd 1 of Rahman vs Lewis 2. This was beautifully controlled aggression from Lewis. I didn’t see any specific jab that wobbled Lewis and the commentators made no mention of same either. At any rate, a jab (which Wilder doesn’t have) is a lot easier to land than a right (Wilder’s money punch IF he can land it flush). Despite the prior KO loss to the right hand, Lewis was not at all reluctant taking it to Rahman and/or letting Hasim bring it to him. Lewis was ready to fire at all times. Rather, it was Lewis’ jab that gave Hasim a good going over and bleeding before the first round was out. No doubt if Wilder landed flush he’d hurt and possibly KO Lewis but I think Lennox would be duly aware of and successfully on guard for same while still pushing a strong offensive game. Lewis could well get to Wilder before Deontay even lands anything of significance. If Wilder begins to land some I believe Lewis would duly ramp up also. More risky of course but Lewis would still fire back hard and could just as easily put Wilder out with a single punch or so.
The more interesting question: How would Wilder do against the overweight and old Lewis from Vitali? I think there would be a decent chance for Wilder to score a KO
