I want Wilder to win so AJ can dismantle and destroy him at the end of the year.

I think Ortiz will KO him first though.

Either way the purge of ESB's mentally challenged posters is inbound and I simply cannot wait.

Until I see both fighters in the ring, prepped and ready to go, I won't hold out any hopes for this fight.

This will be a good test for Wilder. Ortiz has an odd style and power, and he could get some rounds. Wilder will probably work his range to break Ortiz down, before he goes for power shots. Wilder does sometime throw bombs early too, so we'll see what Ortiz really brings.

I know we act like Wilder does windmill punches inside, but I think it was excitement in that moment of a KO.

He can actually fight decent on the inside for small moments and move. I give Wilder the edge, but I think Ortiz will put up a fight.

Wilder has...............HAYMON BOXING INSURANCE! Haymon will not allow Wilder to lose a fight to anyone, even if Ortiz were to knock Wilder out, Haymon will have Ortiz disqualified! Haymon will own the boxing commission, the judges, referee, and if he needs VADA he can use that as well. Haymon owns everything for this fight. Did Ortiz sign with Haymon?

    Not really feeling it.
Sure, it's Wilder's first fight against a top 5 HW and thus quite a step up for him, with the clear possibility Ortiz knocking him TFO, but I'm not excited for it.

Maybe next week something will sink in.

yeah man, i hope it is possible to watch both kovalev/mikhalkin and ortiz/wilder. but both are fighting in new york so it is possible they will show up at the same time.

but good point, bivol vs barrera also a really good fight.

I am really surprised you think it will be a wilder decision. Honestly I think he blows Ortiz out of there in just a few rounds. If Ortiz does manage to take him to a decision, Ortiz will have a good shot.

Nope. I'm a Wilder fan myself and I feel much the same way. Never was impressed by Ortiz, and I'm not impressed by any semantics let alone the ****-poor resume excuse most jump to.

Ortiz was **** when he was on the juice.

Wilder vs Ortiz is quite intriguing to these old boxing eyes. I’ve been watching this game for over 30 years in front of the TV mostly but I’ve been in Vegas on fight night, hell I’ve been in Arkansas, Memphis, KC, NY, Atlantic City all over really. I need to get across the pond at some point and check out a fight in the UK, I love the passionate fan base, the singing in the crowd all of it, something I’d like to witness first hand.

The thing that most intrigues me about this fight is the contrast in fighters.

One an American, and more of a great athlete than a gifted boxer clearly. Wilder is tall and long, almost built like an NBA athlete, though his 6’6 frame wouldn’t be “tall and long” in that sport. His length and athleticism has got him this far, that and his strait right that Mark Breland has clearly schooled him up on. But I’ll be the first to admit he looks quite amateurish often in the ring. I mean he was being badly outboxed over the first few rounds by Gerald Washington (another late to boxing guy) I’ve always said late to boxing guys never make it, like Seth Mitchell they lack a boxers natural fighting instincts it seems, most can’t cope with being hurt when they are tagged solidly they don’t know how to recover or defend properly. Look at how wild Wilder gets when he has someone hurt, that’s not text book boxing learned at a young age. That’s late to the sport stuff.

On the other side we have the Cuban Luis Ortiz a long time amateur who seems to have all the tools in the tool box. Opposite of Wilder he has natural fighter instincts. We know he can crack with that right hand, he fights well on the inside and has a jarring uppercut. In the Jennings fight he showed me so many levels, early he was hunting setting up his shots and looking for the KO. Jennings tried to take him inside and he got destroyed. Ortiz even got on his toes for a bit bounced around using movement and looked completely natural and comfortable doing it..

Now if you presented me with all this evidence I’d say slam dunk Ortiz by KO!! But Wilder has that eraser in the big right, and maybe Ortiz gets hit and goes to sleep. Maybe Ortiz hurts Wilder early and Wilder decides “wow I gotta get this joker outa here” I think it’s a very fun fight and I’m expecting fireworks. I hope Ortiz lands flush so we can see if Wilder can take it!!! Let’s get it on!!!

A fat roided 50yr old Cuban.. Hardly inspiring. He's hardly Ibeaubuchi is he? I bet he he'll gas after 3 rounds with a bit of pressure too.. 10 years, 30+ fights & this is his signature opponent???

I agree. I am expecting a few tense moments early but Wilder starts pounding on Ortiz after 3.
