Interesting matchup here. Can Wilder get him out of there? Tbh I think McCall would likely stop Wilder ... McCall had good power to go with his iron casted jaw. I can see McCall getting hurt by Wilders right hand but ultimately recovering from it.
Ollie McCall is exactly the sort of guy Wilder would have avoided and rightly so. That ridiculous chin combined with power combined with Wilder's hittability can only end up with Deontay taking a nap at some point.
McCall gets nailed by a Wilder right hand and all McCall does is blink. McCall can be outboxed but its not going to be easy for Wilder as hes going to be demoralized when his power doesnt phase McCall. The more i think about this I think Wilder would hate being in this fight. McCalls resume is also much better than Wilders. Wilders best competition probably the Luis Ortiz fights, Fury and Stiverne? Contrast that with McCall who wasnt moved carefully at all, Mike Hunter Sr, Buster Douglas, Tony Tucker, Orlin Norris, Lennox Lewis, Bruno, Holmes, Maskaev, Jesse Ferguson, Damiani, Akinwande, he was even scoring decent wins way past his best. All that to say, ill pick McCall by KO.
Yeah Wilder would duck him Not worth it for him to take this kind of opponent McCall was eating right hands from Lewis without protecting himself and still didn't get hurt. McCall was a big strong durable guy with average skills and decent power ... Wilder would likely get stopped .... He could barely take Fury's power
Wilder may win a close decision but he doesn't knock McCall out. With Wilder's power he has a 1/50 chance of doing so but the problem is McCall is not only absurdly durable, he knew how to survive by going into his shell and retreating. And given that McCall could be a good counter puncher and Wilder could be very sloppy there's actually a good possibility McCall stops the power puncher.
So far everyone is correct. Although Wilder could get a decision, it is more likely McCall, who likely has the best chin in boxing *ever*, either wears him down, or walks him down after taking hellacious blows.
This is kryptonite sort of fight for Wilder for the reasons previously mentioned here. Deontay gets knocked out
McCall would have a great chance here. Wilder sits back doing next to nothing waiting to turn/end the fight with one big right hand and it doesn't happen. Alternately if he tries to up the ante late he might gas before he gets McCall out of there.
Can’t see wilder beating any good fighters with great chins. Men like Tua, Chuvalo, Foreman, Baer, and McCall prob stop him before he stops them.
Davarryl Williamson and Orlin Norris and Bounty Hunter and Juan Carlos Gomez beat him. Doubt Wilder would have any issues. Closing your eyes and throwing a one in a million shot at Lennox Lewis only goes so far.
Oliver McCall had a 50 percent KO percentage. He closed his eyes and threw a right that dropped Lennox Lewis, and Lewis was up few seconds later. It was a fluke. Lots of very ordinary guys not only went the distance with McCall but beat him. And people exagerrate McCall's chin, but he was hurt any number of fights. Hell, he came out fast after Bruno, Frank cracked him, and McCall stopped charging for the next half hour until he needed a KO at the end to win, which he didn't get even over a thoroughly exhausted Bruno. You knew when McCall got hurt, because he'd take his foot of the gas, take zero chances and look to go the distance. McCall was a seemingly bad matchup for Joey Christjohn, Kimmuel Odum, Bashir Wadud, Fred Whitaker, Mike Hunter, Dave Jaco, Lionel Butler, Orlin Norris, Jesse Ferguson, Davarryl Williamson, Cornelius Ellis, Timur Ibragimov, Juan Carlos Gomez, Cedric Boswell, Francesco Pianeta ... and any number of also-rans ... and he not only didn't stop any of them, he lost to half of them. In a 12-year career, Wilder has only lost or failed to stop the World Champ Fury, and he could very well beat Fury and stop him next month. McCall couldn't beat and couldn't stop a lot of guys. Wilder would be just another he couldn't do either against.
