ATG punching power?? I'd say 99% of the top 50 HW's of all time would KO the 33 complete scrubs Wilder's fought and most would probably KO Stiverne as well.
ATG power based on what exactly? Part of being an 'ATG' puncher is that you destroy quality opposition. Tua has Moorer, Ruiz etc Tyson has Holmes, Spinks etc Foreman has Norton, Frazier etc Lewis has Ruddock, Grant, Golota etc What does Wilder have? Audley Harrison and Malik Scott? As i said before on the Sam Peter/Razor Ruddock thread. Boxing history is full of guys with KO highlight reels over D level, C level fighters. What seperates ATG punchers from average guys, is that the ATG punchers also take out quality opposition. Something Wilder has yet to do. Even Keith Thurman had 'ATG power' until he stepped up.
I actually think that Wilder’s power is genuine, but I am not sold on anything else about him. He will have to prove a lot more, before I even consider this to be a fight.
I believe his power is genuine, but he needs to KO somebody of note before its labelled as 'ATG' power. At the moment, hes another Shannon Briggs.
I think theyre about the same level, they both beat Liakovich, but Briggs has that 'win' over Foreman.
how about 34-0 marciano v 34-0 wilder? comparable records arguably favouring rocky but best performance might well be wilder v stiverne. massive reach advantage for wilder but chin questions too. would be a hard fight to pick without knowing what rocky did later in his career.
Please don't compare the Lyakovich that Briggs beat, to the version that Wilder beat. Or indeed that version of Briggs, to that version of Wilder!
Looking at Wilder's career so far, I doubt he stands much chance. Wilder does have a punch, but as well as a punch, Rocky had a chin and always showed a will to win. The 'X' factor some will mention is size. But if you look at the best of the Heavyweights, you will notice the biggest of the era is never the best. And among the bigger men, Lewis and the brothers Klitschko took a decade or so to get due kudos; so I will reconsider my opinion in 2022 if Wilder is still at the top of the game.
It also matters on who your hitting, hitting taxi drivers, garbage men and toilet cleaners will make you look like the best thing since cooked food. When you punch someone a little bit more capable, thats when your punch power is tested.
If you look at some of the greatest punchers in heavyweight history, all scored some memorable KOs over quality opposition. Wilder, has not (yet at least), so its ludicrous to call this guy an ATG puncher, considering hes fought nobody of note. Shavers at least dropped Holmes and rocked Alis world and numerous other sources have all said Shavers is the hardest puncher they fought.
