I think he beats Morrison, that's probably it. He was rocked badly against 40 something Ortiz so I don't see him surviving an onslaught from Tua or Mercer. Tucker outboxes him and Spoon outboxes or kayos him. Before anyone says I'm a hater, there is plenty of good fighters I would pick him to beat.
Overrated here on Classics? Whats next, comparing his KO-Streak with Alex Stewart? I think Wilders biggest asset was sharpshooting with a big shot from the outside, fighting like setting a trap over and over again. As we saw with Fury, he liked to fear his opponents away from him to be in position. He was not able to bring up that power in combinations or general over 3 minutes in a bout (otherwise Fury couldn´t do what he did). Didn´t look too good in Ortiz 1 under pressure too. From that standpoint, I believe two iron mandibles that could punch, coming constantly at him, are the worst matchup (Tua, Mercer). Tucker could befuddle him with boxing too and edge it, but I think Wilder wins this. Morrison could punch too, but catches something before Wilder does. His best matchup seems to be Witherspoon. As soon as he hurts him, Wilder got a big advantage of course.
The Mercer one is understandable but as proven in his losses Tua doesn't come forward constantly at anybody, Lewis and Byrd both made him slow down by outboxing him from the outside. Yeah he was there all night with Ibeabuchi but then again neither wanted to take a back step.
Wilder will go down as one of the greatest HWs to never win the lineal title. Unfortunate for him, Fury shares the same era as him.
Jimmy Ellis, Bruce Seldon, Shannon Briggs, Frank Bruno, probably Berbick, Smith, MAYBE Mike Weaver....wait, naaaah. Weaver would pulverize him.
You can admit you don't really like Wilder lol anyway if Wilder starts fast he'd get Weaver out quick.
Not sure on that, Dokes threw exactly one good punch and a whole load of arm pun ches in their first fight and Weaver was only moderately in trouble (that is, if you're referring to that as a base for your argument). I've never seem Wilder start quite that fast except against markedly inferior opposition. Holmes knocked the crap out of Weaver early on, far more than Dokes ever did, and Mike kept coming. I daresay Holmes had a better right hand than Fury, though neither man was a heavy puncher. Weaver weathered the storm against heavy puncher Coetzee as well, then knocked his ass flat. Prime Weaver catches up to Deontay in 9. And yeah I DO like Wilder, he's my favourite heavyweight today.
Nah, I think you're mixing up the Witherspoon-Smith rematch with the Weaver-Dokes rematch. Smith dropped Witherspoon in one, and Dokes stopped Weaver in one.
