Bellew would school and embarrass Wilder as did Szpilka, Washington, Ortiz and Durhurpas. The issue here is Wilder has an equaliser and can win the fight at any moment. I feel both Whyte and Bellew have good chances to beat Wilder.
That's very true and it's also a big element in many of the most respected boxers careers. I respect Bellew for being realistic and up front about this. Anyway it won't happen and if it did the massive reach advantage would make life difficult for Bellew before Wilder eventually gets through and ends proceedings via KO.
I see it differently to you. He markets his cherry picking based on the fact he's never been truly rated, as if that gives him a free pass. So he plays on this 'just a fat kid from Liverpool' line he trots out ALL THE TIME to justify why he won't take on Wilder or Joshua - 'They too big for me' - but does call out ring rusty Tyson Fury, who is bigger and taller than both of the others. And adds the caveat he'll only fight him if it's soon ie: before he sheds the rust and flab. Bellew left CW to twice fight a shot David Haye and conveniently avoided Uysk, Briedis and Gassiev. To chase the money, I get that but he's hardly calling them out is he? What Bellew does if Uysk and Gassiev move up to HW will be indicative. Fight one of them? We'll see but how would he paint the underdog picture then if they move up in weight to face him? Not hating on the man, just judging him as I would anyone who is or has been a legitimate world title holder. In many ways I'm giving him credit; he's up there now in pretty high company and should be treated accordingly. It's fine, be prudent, but don't play the warrior card at the same time or expect to be assessed by different criteria.
haye was overrated in his prime. i watched the second fight yesterday. looked like two eight year old school girls, omg are they terrible.
Wilder by absolutely brutal knockout. Punches from Stevenson and Makabu would feel like mosquito bites compared to a right hand from Wilder.
He was still considered a massive favourite over Bellew. And overrated or not, he's a decent name for anyone to have on their record.
Well, the same was supposed to be the case with Haye. People saying if Adonis can knock Bellew out then Haye would decapitate him etc etc. Fights don't always work that way. Wilder in terms of raw power would be the hardest puncher he'd ever face, but he'd also be one of the easiest top level guys to read and avoid due to how crude he is.
He's scared of anyone with power. This is the guy who Haye frightened into writing his will ... Tyson Fury doesn't hit hard, so he's ok, but Wilder & Joshua would KO him cold.
Fury schools him if he's 80% his peak. I agree, he doesn't hit hard but he's stopped a lot of opponents, probably through fatigue and then the coup de grace. I think Bellew knows this and hopes he can get to him before he's had enough comeback fights...
Yeah, that's a good point. Even so, if Fury stopped Bellew it's probably not as dangerous as a big Wilder windmill or Joshua uppercut. Even from his Twitter you can see how terrified Bellew is of getting hurt in the ring.
