as he enters his 4th year as a pro boxer. how much longer can you use that excuse as having little boxing experience?

3 years as a pro

looks like he has enough experience now to quit fighting corpses and mexican heavyweights

And a suspect chin....which is the real issue here.

If this guy can crack at all, and can take a shot himself, Wilder could be in trouble. Doubt it though. I'm sure his management checked this guy pretty carefully to be sure he's one step removed from palookaville.

 

Wilder is doing just fine. The guy only has 27 rounds of professional experience. The only problem I see is the same one Atlas always bitches about. Wilder no doubt fought better opponents as an amateur than the pros he has been fighting. It's not uncommon for young guys to fight 20-25 pro fights before they really step up.

 

He got flatlined as an amateur, he has little to no upside and no Chin, none.:deal

I agree with all of this, but I do think the other reason they're doing it is because they know he'll get knocked out as often as not when he steps up, and they're trying to build up a shiny looking record so he can get a big fight before that happens. I'm no supporter of the so-called "chincheckers", but they're right about this guy.

Not neccesarily referring to anyone on this thread, but it is amazing how some of the same tools who will cry about how "unathletic" Robert Helenius will sing this guy's praises, despite the vast...vast difference in what these two have accomplished in a similar number of fights.

I want to like Deontay. He's big, powerful, got a bronze medal, and seems to have a good attitude. But if you don't realize that there is some serious problem with his development, then you are simply ridiculous.

 

A regularly knowledgeable and objective poster just spoke right here, fellas. I happen to agree with Brickhaus on this one. Nothing more to really assess about Wilder's chin.

 

The reason he only has 27 rounds under his belt is because he's fighting not only stiffs, but hand picked stiffs at that. Most of his opponents have early KO losses before they fought Deontay, and/or can't fight for ****.
The way for a puncher to get rounds under his belt is to fight strong chinned opponents, and to learn something they have to be able to fight back also.

I'm sure Wilder learns more in sparring as he learns from fighting the opponents he currently faces. Boxers only really get better when they face strong opposition.

But I think his management has more to gain by building the hype as actually make him a better boxer.

 

when your knocking out guys from the bar its time to step it up slightly..no one wants him to be contending but by jesus he should be at least fighting someone with a pulse
