Deontay Wilder will fight Daniel Cota on Angulo vs. Kirkland undercard

I don't see how these type of fights help him at all. I understand they want to move him slowly and I agree with that because he still has a lot to work on but at least put him in what someone who can go rounds but doesn't pose too much of a threat.

 

Dude needs rounds under his belt...blowouts achieve nothing.

Bout time for Hawkins or Page, someone like that.

 

Wilder has talent, he´s a big, I´d say he´s ready for real fights. This can isn´t going to give Wilder that.

Like Wilder´s team aren´t counting on Wilder at all.

Look what the other young prospects are doing in their +10 fights. Look at Mike Perez for example.

No step-up, same ****.

Balls. This fight sucks Balls. Its a step down from Damon Reed. He should have been facing Saul Montana if he wanted to face local talent.

 

I only know about Cota from what I see on his record and its not much so I don't know if this is a step up, back, etc. I don't have a problem with Wilder taking it slow and his competition, no matter how weak it its, has been a step up over the last 5-6 fights. But, it is time to take another small step up, atleast to guys who will take him some rounds.

All these early ko's are great from a marketing stand-point but I'd like to see him face someone who will atleast give him some rounds before being stopped. He doesn't need to face contenders but someone mentioned Hawkins and Page and they would be appropriate in one of his next fights.

Point is he should step up and take some quality opponent's. His list is not even half quality fighter's. This guy have Olympic bronze medal, so he should step up faster

you may be right. still though, there's no telling how deontay's other skills may develop, that will keep his chin from being exposed. there are at least a handful of men who've gone on to be successful moneymakers and world title holders who couldn't take a solid shot

This is true. But with his natural talent we'd really like to see him start bouncing some of these pretenders aside wouldnt we.:think

 

And he's been wobbled badly several times against truck drivers and club bouncers in the pros. I can understand the amateurs - he wasn't carrying enough weight for his frame, and that usually makes a fighter's chin worse (long-term dehydration = less brain fluid and inner ear fluid = worse balance (controlled by the inner ear) and more prone to concussions (because less brain cushion)), but he's put on about 30 pounds now, hasn't faced any big hitters or even decent fighters, and he's been hurt several times. It's not even a matter of facing a big hitter - just someone who can hit him cleanly and consistently.

I could wind up being wrong, but every so often there's a prospect where it's obvious that his chin is being hidden, and Wilder is one of them.

 

For what it's worth, Alexander and Reed are on par with Levin, and it took a big puncher like Wilder to expose Caudill, so I can't critisize him too much. But yeah, nowhere near on the same path as Helenius, then again, is ANYBODY?:deal
