Now he has badly damaged his hand he will not and can not fight in the same way. The way he threw that right hand, straight on full power, with follow through, was always going to end up with a badly broken hand, it was a matter of time and now it been done once it will always be a risk and that will be at the back of his mind every fight. He has to change the way he throws that punch and so he won't be the KO artist he once was.
It took him years to stop falling over his own arse ever time he threw a jab, and you want him to alter the way he's fighting in a couple of months?
Call in bad technique if you like, it been very effective but it's a technique that comes with a price, and the price has been paid in full.
I don't want him too. He has too. He know it now. I'm not saying hes the best HW out there (he isnt) but I'm saying hes lost his big weapon and will never fight the same.
I think hes talking about his hands... but it isn't the a question of fragile bones, its his commitment to the punch. You can't commit like that without damage.
Vitali had something similar happen to him and it made him a better fighter. I think Wilder needs his power though. If he's lost it, he's toast.
Even if he's never the same it's not really some tragic altering of a future great. Lol His chin always was and still is a highlight reel KO begging to happen
Wilder technique doesn't help . Wilder throw's many looping punches that may generate power but will expose the hand to potential for damage. A well executed punch makes contact with a tightly closed fist and the second and third knuckle with the wrist held straight. Looping punches commonly make contact with the 4 & 5 knuckle . These are the 2 thinnest of the 5 bones. Also looping punches are more telegraphed and take longer to find there mark than straight punches and thus giving the other boxer more time to react and lower the head further increase the risk of injury.
