In all seriousness Wilder would appear to be a highly likely case for the punch drunk / long term damage category. He has his biblical rants about how he's the second coming and then within fights he has that pride where he'd rather by taking flush shots. I get it, we're about the same age and where and when I grew up there was that mindset of it's better to get your licks than back down from any confrontation. That mindset seems to be disappearing and Wilder has millions in the bank, it could get ugly if he pushes on another five years +
Tbf wilder never really took a lot of punishment in his career until fury. We,ve seen guys like chisora come back time and time again after hard fights. Obviously he needs a sound medical. But wilder probably deserves after saturday to build a decent legacy...and have one last go of it probably against joshua. Good break. Then quick succession of 2 fights against your charles martin types. If all goes well andy ruiz. Maybe then parker or Hunter etc. Again see how it goes then on to joshua for one last big go. He could end up leaving the sport with a respectable resume.
Two beatings like this in a row is not good at all. He probably won't be 100%. He should thank Breland for saving him. I dislike the man for all the stuff he talks but I will always tune in. Exciting and a warrior. Aside from the fact he was beat down, he has only lost to one guy. It really isn't that big of a deal. He, with his mouth, made it a big deal because the more you talk the more embarrassing it is when you lose.
Good. Plenty of good fights left for him out there, that's if the trilogy didn't take too much from him. Depending on how the division aligns with the fights between Usyk-Fury-AJ, he will get an opportunity to fight some of them. Also some very good contenders and prospects out there too.
What logic, Wilder gets his ass kicked 3 times by the first live body he faced who was not a total can, and now all of a sudden he is the second best in the division. I just dont understand how you can get up in the morning and get dressed.
It's a bit premature to say he should retire. I'd like to see how he looks against Whyte or maybe AJ if he loses the Usyk rematch first.
I don't see how losing to the top heavyweight in a competitive fight means retirement. He will probably have a lot of lucrative deals going forward. Most boxers love the act of boxing even if they aren't number 1. However, with regards to the beating he took I don't know at what level we can realistically expect him at. He should take a long break and then a soft touch before going for the top dogs again. AJ, Ruiz, and Whyte would still be lucrative and interesting fights to watch.
Fury isn't just some live body, he is the current number 1 fighter in the division. A loss to Fury isn't really something to scoff at.
