He once again shows off his big power and wins by another first round KO. That's his fifth straight first round KO against Kelsey Arnold. Arnold was the same fighter that took Tor Hamer the distance. Stay tuned for his next fight on July 17. This content is protected Heavyweight Deontay Wilder, right, lands a blow to Kelsey Arnold in the first round Friday night during ESPN's "Friday Night Fights" at Desert Diamond Casino in Tucson, Ariz. Wilder won by knockout.
It's good for him he got the win. But Arnold was putting his head down closing his eyes and just winging a punch. I was surprised it lasted that long.
Arnold isn't a fulltime boxer, he's like most of the guys are my gym. Box to help pay the rent. Kinda sad actually....
Yea I heard them mention he was a full time landscaper. So this is more of a side job. No knock towards him. I just felt Wilder should of had a little better opposition being a former olympian.
I totally agree, I understand that they don't want to put anyone that hard in front of him yet, but they can't baby him at the same time. He's only been boxing for 4 years believe it or not so they have to kick it into gear fast
Wilder looked good...But that was again against soft opposition...Time to step it up...And Wilder beats Tor Hamer every day...
I like him, but his competition is terrible, he could learn a lot more without being moved too fast. I also like Tyson Fury (though I know he is easy to dislike!), his competition has been considerably better so far.
This is worth pointing out. Fury is considered a 'hype job' around here. His first 6 opponents have combined records of 92-61-4 and he is rumoured to be fighting for a domestic title in his 8th fight. Deontay Wilder is held up as the second coming of Jesus and has wins against opponents with a combined record of 14-23-3. If Fury was a yank they'd be proclaiming him from the rooftops. I don't even know where the idea comes from that he's difficult to like. In every interview I've ever seen with him he looks thoroughly likeable.
Wilder has the tools but right now, not the skills. He's way too wide open and I hope Breland can tighten these things up before the level of competition catches up to him. Otherwise he's a KO waiting to happen.
No... it's NOT time to "step it up"!!! The guy only has 4 years boxing experience total and 5 pro fights... Only a fool would push this kid faster at this point. He's a genuine blue chip prospect... If not for potential greatness, at least for potentialy great earning$. ie.} A Young, Black, American, Olympic medalist... with the SIZE and possibly the skill to make an impact vs the Russian cyborgs... $$$
Well it all started when his dad said he could box the ears off a prime George Foreman. It kind of went downhill from there. Anyways it was an impressive performance from a great young prospect. I don't mind the lack of opposition yet because the guy had under 75 amateur fights unless I'm mistaken...and he's clearly NOWAY NEAR ready to take on somebody who's a decent journeyman or anything like that. He's got a long way to go so a slow approach is okay. IF by his 10th or 15th fight, he's still taking on these guys, I'll make a complaint.
I think Fury has a lot of potential. He's a "hype job" in the sense that he and his dad proclaimed that he could beat a prime Foreman.
I saw this on FNF he was up against a punching bag. Wilder gotta step it up a notch Oh and on that bum Fury, i'd pick Wilder to knock his ass anyday
