Fast twitch muscle fibres essentially...like I said earlier explosive power is what allows an athlete to jump, throw or sprint . Wilder hits like a mule, probably a combination of fast twitch fibres and other neuromuscular "freakishness" such as limb length, tendons etc. https://blog.haloneuro.com/the-athletes-guide-to-the-brain-explosiveness-44df6179acfc
I said athletic means to me explosive power...not well co ordinated. He has explosive power imo. I agree he doesn't seem to be the most co ordinated but I still consider him athletic by my definition.
Yeah. Its not only about muscle fibers. Ali had Foreman beat in mass*speed but Foreman still punched much harder.
Explosive power is about fast twitch muscle fibres. Foreman didn't have explosive power, he was very strong with thudding punches but I wouldn't call him explosive. That doesn't mean he generated less force than wilder just in a different way
Power is about explosiveness plus impact. Ali had explosiveness (mass*speed) but lacked power. Foreman had impact power but no explosiveness.
That's how it seems. Athletes are athletes, they practice athletics. Boxers are boxers, footballers are footballers, tennis players are tennis players etc.
Your definition is far too vague and ambiguous! If you mean to say explosive = power. Then I've got no problem with that! Since power = The ability to produce strength in the shortest possible time. And strength = the maximum amount of force an athlete can generate. And force = Mass * acceleration of an athlete. These are all scientific definitions that are as specific as possible and are also measurable!
If you give Fury and Wilder a sledgehammer and measure who hits harder with it Fury would crush Wilder's score due to much greater mass*speed. With their own fists Wilder has an advantage in impact solidity transmitting his power. That's the main difference.
Wilder is often out of position, is not all that coordinated, misjudges distance, and fights with about as much rhythm as George Foreman. I wouldn't call his style athletic. But he's a very long, lithe, quick-handed leverage fighter who sometimes gets his timing down. He's a punching fool.
In an objective sense, Wilder is an incredible athlete particularly when taking into account his power to weight ratio. That's off the scale, especially when you take into account his poor technique which must cost him. If he ever learned to throw straight punches... wow. He's a crude boxer with average talent and seems to do his very best to make the least of the physical ability he's been blessed with, but it would be wrong to factor in his lack of skill/balance/technique if you want to lower his grade for athleticism. It's A+
