Surely, surely, after four years as a pro Wilder should be above fighting guys like Greer. Surely he's past the part of his career where he has to take "stay-busy" fights just to learn the intricacies of boxing.

He's had 7 fights in 2009, 6 fights in 2010, 6 fights in 2011 and 6 fights in 2012, most of which were against guys of a similar level to Greer, so it's hardly going to be a learning experiance for him.

And Wilder does have a belt. He won the WBC Continental Americas Heavyweight Title by beating Price. As the holder of this belt - though it may not be a big one it has some history having been around since the 1970's - he doesn't have to take "stay busy" fights and he should be looking to fight at a higher level, he should be looking to push on to the top fighters in his country, not fighting just to keep occupied.

he doesn't have to fight at all. It's been one damn month since the Price fight. Why roast him for this fight when it's only been a month later. If he didn't fight for another 4 months and then this Greer fight came up, then it would be no good.

Deontay is still trying to learn how to fight as a pro. He just now, after 4 years got his balance down in the ring. He needs activity and rounds and he is getting them. The Price fight was a great fight

I'm impressed to hell that there's a guy with 40,000 posts on a message board, more than 35,000 of which say the same thing over and over.

When you gonna expand and step up your game?

Price fights a 50 year old bum named Skelton and he is the next champ,Wilder fights a guy like Greer who many top fighters fought and he's a bum.
Better to stay busy you bunch of dicks!

Many heavyweights fought Greer as a test.

Oh I forgot,Wilder has to fight only top 5 fighters or he's a bum.

Forget the fact that Helenius has faced 1 decent fighter (Chisora and he lost)

Fury only fought one decent guy (Chisora)

Boytsov,9 years as a pro hasnt faced anyone of note.

    Price,hasnt yet faced anyone

    Arreola,fought Walker 100 years ago

Is everyone living in a fantasy? To be a contender these days, all you have to do is beat a few bums and have t hands.

hella disapointing choice...... i thought being on showtime and stepping up a bit last time meant there was no going back. i love watching wilder but he needs to test himself agaist someone decent. top 50 type at least

is it asking too much for his shitty management to plan his career a little better? granted it has only been a month since his last fight, but this fight is garbage enough that they should have something lined up afterwards worthy of a guy who will be 27-0 (27 KOs) and holder of a bronze medal. but they dont and thats the sad part.

I agree, but the point is, this is not Wilder's fault. He fights whomever they put in front of him, and he fights often. He should get some CREDIT for this.

If GBP wants to get Wilder proper opponents, they are going to have to spend some serious money. Offer a large guarantee to the prospective opponent, win or lose.

Take a fighter like Price, or fury, or Jennings: What possible reason would they have for facing Wilder right now? If they win, there is no glory, and they would be facing a guy that, no matter how inexperienced, no matter how suspect some idiots think his chin is, can KO them with one punch, from either hand.

Go down the opposition-tier a little bit, and things don't really change. It doesn't even matter if you think he has skills or not. Wilder is all-risk / no reward.

There would have to be a HUGE payday, guaranteed. GBP would likely have to literally LOSE money on Wilder's next few fights, and evidently they aren't willing to invest in their product.
    -------------

And like I've said numerous times before, this is not just a problem with Wilder. The same situation holds true, to varying extents, for Price, Boytsov, and many other "dangerous but 2nd / 3rd tier fighters in all divisions.

It's a problem with the sport as a whole, but no one seems to want to discuss it much. Easier to just rag on the fighters, I guess, from behind your little computer keyboard.
