Deontay Wilder's power is overrated

I was one of many who bought into the hype that Deontay Wilder's power is legendary. Looking back at Wilder's record I've come to the conclusion that his power is overrated.

vs Fury: Wilder knocked down Fury twice in the first fight, once in round 11 I think. If Wilder's power was as great as he says it was, Fury would have stayed down due to his body already soaking up punishment for 10+ rounds and being tired from already going 10+ rounds.

vs Spilka: Chisora knocked out Spilka just as bad. Wilder even connected a few right hands on Spilka which did nothing. It seems Wilder needs a punch to be perfectly placed and timed in order for it to have the desired effect.

vs Stivern: Joe Joyce also knocked out Stivern.

vs Washington: Washington has a glass chin, and has been knocked out several times.

vs Ortiz: Luiz Ortiz had 300+ amateur fights and as a heavy weight southpaw, he has been eating right hands for his entire pro and amateur career. That takes a toll on a fighter's chin, so I think it's fair to say that Luis Ortiz chin was cracked by the time he fought Wilder. Ortiz is also old and gets tired after 6 rounds which makes him more likely to go to sleep when his chin is checked.

vs Brezeal: Brezeal's defence is atroscious, he basically walked into Wilder's right hand wide open the way a heavy bag swings back ready to be blasted again with a full force right hand. Despite taking the full force of such a hard shot, Brezeal still got up at the count of 10. Yes Brezeal was still wobly after the knock down, but if Wilder had legendary knock out power, Brezeal would have still been sleeping if the count was up to 200, and only smelling salts would have woken him up any sooner.

People like Tyson Fury lie that Wilder is the hardest puncher in boxing history because it makes Fury look better. Sure Wilder punches hard but he commits fully to every right hand he throws, his right hand punching power is overrated. Wilder realized this in his two fights against average chinned Fury, and that's why Wilder took a hiatus from boxing. He no longer believes in his power, and so will not commit 110% to straight right hands like before, this alone is enough to drop Wilder's power from a 10 out of 10 to an 8 out of 10.

If Wilder ever returns to the ring he should avoid Fury, Joshua, Ruiz, and Joyce like the plague because he will not be the same knock out puncher he once was.

The bronze bomber is now the bronze bb gun.

A man is still a man that requires knocking out

    Even if they're bums.

Wilder clearly has a touch of death. Explosive power.

He palms and hits the side/back of the head also...

The way he basically did nothing then touched Ortiz once had finished him was impressive.

Did he break his hand in the first Stiverne fight? probably

What happened in the Duhapaus fight?

    Why is Fury invincible?

    We'll never know.

Deontay Wilders power is the real deal. You mention Breazeales defense is atrocious and you're right, AJ was teeing off on that ass with flush shots for 7 rounds before he could finally put him down for good. And after that we see how Wallin landed a crap ton of flush shots and they didn't do much, the same Wallin who stunned Fury in round 12.

It puts Wilder right hand into perspective. But he's overrated as a fighter. Idiots actually think he's a top 3 :jaja-no: "he beats everyone but Fury and Joshua" LOL

he has 1 good win against Ortiz which puts him at world level but besides that his resume sucks

Wilder needs to get back in the ring and win back fans. The longer he stays inactive the more people start to think he was a fraud.

It's not really who he knocked out. it's that he's extremely consistent in knocking people out. Even skilled, heavy throwing boxers generally aren't nearly that consistent in KOs. even against journeymen. (Look at Hrgovic, Yoka, Zhang, Ajagba)

The people who have spoken about his power say it's awful, devastating. People who have fought him.

Inoue did the same in round 1 against Payano. Unlike Ortiz, Payano is youngish and was completely fresh in round one, had taken zero punishment from Inoue up till that one shot right hand or should I say, gunshot right hand. Most importantly, Payano stayed down.

Inoue is the true one punch man, not Wilder.

Charlie Zelenoff anyone?? Took Wilders shots and wasn't knocked out or even out of it.

Zelenoff vs Hartley he ran out of the ring in the first round and Hartley retired at 2-28 with 27 KO losses

Arreola said Stiverne hit him harder, but Stiverne did cave half his face in

    Haha.

Fury had barely been hit. He hardly had much punishment to soak up.

Joshua actually had Breazeale all over the place with his first good punch but for some reason the ref jumped in and broke the flow, Breazeale got back up inside ten btw

Deontay Wilder only has power if he winds up and throws a haymaker, one of his "windmill" punches.

His hooks and jabs are not very hard.

Good point. I think Wilder's consistency in getting knockouts is partly due to his explosiveness, aggressiveness, and athleticism. Hrgovic, Yoka, and Ajagba are all slow twitch, Zhang to a lesser extent since he can be very explosive. Wilder is all fast twitch and once he hurts you he goes all in to get the knock out.

Gerald Washington, handpicked, was winning and got KO'd, BRUTAL POWER surely? Except Charles Martin floored him far worse with one punch

and this is the same with most Wilder opponents, chinny guys who have been stopped before or after faster than he could manage, Eric Molina stopped in the first round Arreola, easy pick, goes life and death, Joshua almost murders Molina in comparison

    Timestamped, look at his head
