Derek Chisora vs Deontay Wilder targeted for April

A good fight that also makes a lot of sense, unlike the Usyk - Wilder mismatch.

I don't know about Zhang - Dubois though, that's a bad stylistic matchup for Dubois.

People are saying that Wilder is shot, and he is, although I think he is more mentally shot than physically. However, physically, Chisora is well more shot. Del Boy was never quick, skillful, or nuanced, but these days he is as slow as molasses, wide open defensively, and he only throws over hands. His footwork is all over the place, as well. He is constantly getting squared up, and even going into a southpaw stance, at times.

He used to have a good gas tank for a heavyweight, but after 3 rounds he is knackered and backs up to the ropes for a breather. It is only his heart and fighting spirit that keeps him in fights.

I dread to imagine the amount of trauma his brain has received over the years. Chisora needs to retire. If he insists on fighting on, his team need to keep him away from punchers.

Chisora is open to the straight right hand due to his style and age, so why his team are looking at a Wilder or Wardley fight is beyond me.

People will say that Wilder can't pull the trigger anymore. True, against most fighters.
Against an old, slow, open, and predictable fighter like Chisora, Wilder connects no problem.

 

If this is true, what a stupid fight for Wilder and his team to take, considering the lineal world heavyweight champion is calling you out

i don't mind the fight but lets be honest - they're 2 way past it fighters. hopefully we get much more than this in the coming months.

Hopefully the prime HWs actually fight rather than sitting about watching TV or however they spend their time.

 

A few days ago I read here on the forum that there were problems reaching an agreement between Usyk and Wilder. I honestly had a hard time believing it, but now I think it's true. Otherwise I can't explain the reasoning behind this decision. This isn't like Fury fighting Makhmudov (it's just a rumor now) while waiting for the Joshua fight. I think Wilder currently has a good chance of losing to Chisora. In any case, I wouldn't mind at all if we never see Usyk vs Wilder. Now I hope they can arrange an Usyk - Kabayel fight. I don't think it will be easy, but for me it would be the most interesting fight at the moment at heavyweight.

 

I can see team Usyk wanting Usyks 2 preferred opponents to fight so the winner has some credibility. Fighting Chisora makes no sense for Wilder. High risk low reward fight. If Wilder beats Chisora hes getting no flowers if he loses he will be mocked.

Usyk has already expressed interest in the Chisora rematch and if Chisora were to win this fight Usyk would probably give him the shot next.

 

Prime for prime I would favour Wilder with confidence but there was always a degree of risk with this fight. Wilder and Chisora signed in 2013, with it falling through due to Wilder beating up a prostitute iirc. But some suggested a conspiracy to duck Chisora; the fight was never resheduled, Wilder didn't fight anyone as good or better than Chisora until 2015 (Stiverne 1, who had the WBC) at the earliest, or 2018 (Ortiz) and who was it that took the summer 2013 fight against Chisora? None other than Wilder's sparring partner, best friend and future head trainer Malik "scuba" Scott...

Prior to this, Wilder-Jennings had fallen through in 2012. Jennings stepped up against Wlad in 2015, with Wilder on course to fight Wlad in 2017 at the earliest iirc, if ever. Again, Jennings would have been better than anyone Wilder fought up to 2015, if not 2018. Both Chisora and Jennings look like harder stylistic matchups for Wilder than Stiverne too, particularly at the stage Wilder would have fought them. Chisora in particular had a huge experience advantage having fought Fury, Helenius in Finland, Vitali in Germany and Haye.

At this point Wilder is utterly shot to pieces, while Chisora is significantly faded but still chugging away. I heavily favour Chisora at this stage.

 

Geez just Imagine, the winner of this D+ level matchup will get a title shot, sickening

 

Would have been a great fight 7-8 years ago.

 

If no Usyk vs Wilder fight,
why doesn't Wilder fight AJ instead of Chisora?

 

If this happens and Chisora wins this he will have beaten Washington, Joyce, Wallin, and Wilder resulting in a 4 fight win streak. Not that bad for a long in the tooth 42 year old.

 

There’s always been the egos or whatever with these 2 not being able to make the fight.
And unless you been living under a rock, AJ is not available right now
