Davey Moore's corner sending him out for the 8th round against Roberto Duran. And the referee was atrocious that night

I thought Duran vs. Moore should've been stopped earlier
I thought Fullmer vs. Paret should've been stopped earlier (which was likely a big cause of what happened in his next fight)

I was in the audience at the Garden that night and I loved every second of it. Moore had nothing but disdain for ROBERTO leading up to that Thursday night and I loved every punch he took. The best night of my life.

At least Cobb was being tortured by jabs for the most part Briggs was getting hit flush by right hands and left hooks he was out on his feet after 8rounds.

Davey Moore's corner didn't do him any favors against Duran. Referee too.

Doesn't surprise me regarding the 3rd man because he's useless.

Oh god, that one's terrible. It was the 40s and refs were slower to stop fights back then but Williams even pauses to let him intervene! But it didn't seem like the ref was happy until Jack's head was nearly off.

And god knows what the corner were thinking!

Never been impressed by Ruby Goldstein as a referee.

I didn't,watching a brave man take a horrendous beating wasn't something I enjoyed. His corner should have rescued him.Jose Torres was on ,his feet shouting for it to be stopped, the referee must have been blind.Duran looked like he was having fun in there.

How the referee, the corner and the ringside doctor could let Denis Lebedev go on for round after round against Guillermo Jones with that grotesque swelling, I'll never know!

Without looking it up, does Goldstein have more blotches on his resume than Griffith-Paret III and Patterson-Johannson I? I remember he would write an article for Ring mag every month discussing some past fights he reffed, but now I'm curious. Does anything stand out? Was he just old school who let a fight rage on? I know there was a trivia question years ago that he never reffed again after Paret, but I know he did ref one more fight. Can't recall if it was a club fight or a top fight. But I think it was just to show, 'see, I'm not damaged goods', because he never reffed after that.

When a fighter has little chance to win and is getting battered in the later rounds, his own corner should stop it, not gamble with his health.

After the fight, Briggs said ‘I’ve faced George Foreman and Lennox Lewis, but Vitali is better than both of them.’
