After his loss to Jacobs and a win over Culcay people started to underrate the guy. Although, if you wacthed those fights closely you shouldn't have done that. Jacobs fight was very close SD lose. I scored it 114-113 for Jacobs and you should take into accout that Jacobs was a HUGE step up in class for Derevyanchenko- IF he had an experience he has now he might have edged the victory in that fight. Culcay fight was a clear victory for Derevyanchenko and people were questioning it because of one bad episode for Derevyancehnko in the later rounds. And Culcay isn't some bum - he gave a very tough fight for Andrade for example. I was surprised how many people here were predicting easy GGG's win over Derevyanchenko. Sergiy is very good all-around fight - he has excellent boxing IQ, very good offensive and defensive skills, great heart and good stamina. His chin isn't the sturdiest, but it isn't bad either. His power isn't great but it is solid - I can't remember Canelo being even remotedly close to hurtibg GGG with a body punch. Derevyanchenko did it. I hope Derevyanchenko finally gets his well deserved respect after this fight and wins major title in the near future. He is MUCH better boxer than a lot of title holders in current boxing (in different divisions).
He gave both jacobs and ggg hell with the early knockdown being the difference in both fights. No knockdowns and he clearly wins both. Chenko deserves rematches with both but for whatever reason i doubt he will get them.
Very much agree. Also, even with GGG on the downside, he's having competitive wars (2 of which I thought he won, vs Canelo; the Derev fight was a toss-up IMO) with extremely-talented, younger men who are the cream of the crop or close. No shame in aging. But for everyone who said "GGG is a fraud, he never fought anyone" you're wrong. He has now fought several smaller, faster men with good movement and he was right there in the fights, even as an old man himself. Whether you think he won the fights is up to you, but GGG showed that he belonged and can adapt to face various styles. He's just over the hill now.
Sergiy is the real deal. Solid, good skills, is as tough as anybody at 160. Hope to see him again against another top mw.
People have to understand once again Dere fights at 14/15 in and what talent is. They wont do it though bc its not how boxing fans think. They attack the guy whos suppose to win easy. This is why MMA fans laugh at boxing fans ,as dumb as they are with boxing they know more about combat concept. instead of embracing talent the boxing fans shoot it down and claim someone is overatted and ignore time lines altogether bc they are just stupid,no other way to put it. lol .
Exactly, which I clarified my stance on on the RBR. I was basing my GGG by stoppage prediction on the GGG from the second Canelo match. Sadly, that's a year later, with more wear and tear and we got a badly diminished shell of GGG. But Sergey is a beast, he fought out of his skin, performed beautifully... still didn't do quite enough to outright win it, but he can hold his head up and be damn proud, because he performed far more impressively than Canelo did either time.
Yeah, both SD and Jacobs have better arguments for pushing Golovkin to his limits than Canelo did either time.
Derevyanchenko was properly rated. He was almost immediately stopped as most predicted given the way Culcay hurt him and his reckless pressure. His head movement is really poor when he's closing distance, and then great in the pocket. Turns out styles make fights, and GGG in this stage of his career can be backed up and have a pace put on him. Body work doesn't hurt either. Jacobs was constantly skating on the ropes and circling out from Derev. He can "point fight" like that for 12. Even then Derev had him in trouble on the ropes at one point. It's just not the same fight all. GGG has definitely lost a step. Never seen him so lackadaisical. Still pulled it out in the champ rounds against a solid opponent, which Derev is, regardless if he lost to Jacobs or not.
He lost to Daddy Jacobs on a razor-close decision that arguably could've gone his way and I'm sure the fact that his head trainer was in Jacobs' corner didn't help his chances. Jacobs and GGG are 2 of the most talented fighters in the sport and legit KO bangers (GGG isn't hitting as hard as he was in his prime IMO but he still hits very hard) and SD gave them both hell after showing bags of heart picking himself up off the canvas after suffering early KDs in both fights. For him to be able to do that, especially in the biggest fights of his life on a stage of that magnitude, speaks volumes about his strength of character and for him to push them both so close even though GGG is way past his best speaks volumes about his abilities as a fighter.
I'm being told by certain users that GGG actually blocked every body punch! I guess we need our eyes checked.
He is still underrated by many. There are bunch of comments telling for GGG to retire. But SD was a not a bum. Wish both fighters a quick recovery as I understand both went to hospital after the fight.
