Been sick of him since about 2018, whenever he changed from Del Boy to "War" and became drawn to invading an IFL interview like a fly to a cowpat

Was sick of him 10 years ago. Blokes a convicted woman beater but the moral compass in boxing is that far off these days that a drug cheat and a woman beater are seen as the people’s champions.

Chisora is a strange one, and I'm not just talking about his questionable personality.

In his prime, he wasted opportunities by clearly not training hard enough and looking like he just wasn't arsed in some fights. Yes, he has been in some exciting fights, but he has also been in some absolute stinkers.

He then links up with David Haye and, I'm assuming, gets better PED’s, and starts dedicating himself more which led to a decent run of form. If he was as dedicated in his prime years as he has been in his boxing pensioner years, he may have achieved more.

I've noticed that he seems far more loved by non casuals outside of the UK than he is in the UK. Loads of people seem to love him on the main forum here. I suppose the non Brits may not be aware of the women beating charges against him and his overall odd behaviour. Also, some may only know him since he became a PPV fighter and has been in some decent scraps.

Since the David Haye fight, Derek is 21–9. He’s basically a journeyman and gatekeeper - social media have propped him up because he’s always good for soundbites and jumping into every conversation. People forget the Haye defeat was his fourth loss in five fights. He’s a domestic-level heavyweight in my view, arguably not far apart from Dave Allen’s level if Allen had ever properly dedicated himself. Fine margins, really.

Heavyweights from the ’80s, ’90s and early 2000s must look at him the way First Division players from back in the day look at someone like Robbie Savage. Because there isn’t much difference between Chisora and the likes of Hughroy Currie, Derek Williams, Julius Francis, Michael Sprott and others from that era slightly above and slightly below. That’s the level he’s really on.

It’s survivorship bias in action, because he makes sure he’s always visible - at every show, every event, always in front of a camera. Stay in people’s faces long enough and they start convincing themselves you’re better than you ever were.

Not wanting to give Chisora too much credit but come on, Francis, Sprott and the others you mentioned weren't remotely competitive on the European circuit, strictly British level in their era and would not break the top 10 in the UK right now.

Social media has made a lot of stupid and untalented people randomly rich and famous through pure luck and hype. Take away the big mouth and there isn’t much else there, in my view. Type his name into YouTube and filter it to ‘Today’ or ‘This week’ and you’ll see an endless stream of him in clickbait clips everywhere – he’s not far off Jake Paul IMO. Peak Francis, Sprott and even Currie give a ‘natural’ Derek a run for his money, and Derek Williams likely outboxes him.

Don’t get me wrong, he’s had some good performances and wins – but again, it’s a fine line. In my view, without all the extras and ‘supplements’ people speculate about, he’s basically Dave Allen. But I get your points – I just don’t think ‘War Chisora’ fares all that well in any era except the one he happened to land in.

I don't really understand the hate for him. Provided plenty of entertaining fights and moments for a decade and a half. Yes, he has plenty of defeats, but he has also never been known as a ducker and looked to protect his record. Nor has he ever claimed to be elite.

Are we knocking him because he knows how to promote himself and stay relevant?

Because he beats women up and is a self-entitled baby for someone with about 15 defeats on his record.

I don't like him either, don't like his personality, he tries to bully in with his lump of a size... Kugs shits it pants around him so tries to be his pal..

Always needs to be centre of attention.. retire from boxing already then they need to take away his backstage pass .. the guy is a bad smell that won't go away ..
