Derrick James: nobody wants to see Spence-Crawford

Smh.. More of trying to stall fights until both guys are not prime.. It’s a shame we still have to question whether guys are the goods in their 30s.. Leonard, Benitez and Hearns fought in their young 20s but we can’t get these guys to have marquee fights at 31.. I’m liking how ambitious the new crop of young guys coming up are because even if you feel Teofimo, Devin Haney, Shakur Stevenson and Ryan Garcia isn’t ready, at least they want to test themselves by aiming for the best..

Before Spence went on PPV in the YS he had been selling out Arenas such as in Texas 15,000, 30,000 in Sheffield UK for the Kell Brook fight which was a UK PPV. Unfortunately Crawford could only sell 35,000 against Khan on PPV. I like Crawford and Spence but the numbers are not adding up for both networks to come together.

 

It’s the fight I most want to see, maybe fury Joshua might edge it right now but the hype is still up on that one, I don’t consider myself a fanboy of any fighter but i must say iam close with Crawford, who ever said that this fight is losing the appeal and relevance is right though it’s probably going to happen way to late

 

Spence ducking Crawford. Crawford ducking Porter. Everyone wants the tiny senator and part-time boxer.

 

Bottom line is Derrick James knows everybody wants to see the fight, especially boxing fans. He's speaking from a business stand point. Fighters want to make the big bucks too along with big fights. They want the casual fans money along with the boxing fans money. Crawford is not a house hold name among casual fans. Hopefully Crawford can land a Mikey Garcia, Danny Garcia, Pac, Porter or Brooks fight next to boost his name amongst casual fans for exposure to make that fight between him and Spence even more relevant. I want to see this fight by the end of the year. However I can understand them trying to build this big fight up to the biggest fight of the year!

 

So they should NOT fight until BOTH are at their highest earning potential?!?! this is the kind of **** that keeps good fights from happening. Sucks that neither TC or Spence Jr are household names capable of generating large amounts of revenue on their own accord. But cash cows in boxing aren't the norm, they are the exception.

If these two never fight, it'll have negative connotations set for both.

 

They will fight but the fight needs to be built up more. Crawford should fight Shawn Porter to increase his box office appeal.

 

Crawford is 32 and a multi-weight champ. Spence is about to be 30 as well and just a 147 titlist ATM. You think TC is the only one of the two who needs to up his profile? Nonsense. A fight w/ Porter isn't going to transform TC in to a draw all of a sudden. That's now how it works.

Fact of the matter is, BOth are in their prime and undefeated and BOTH hold titles in their division. If both fee like they deserve to be paid superstar money ala canelo, that's their prerogative. Neither are capable of bringing in that money on their own. And that is what determines worth, how much revenue your fights create.

 

Agreed BUT not right away No one knows for sure how Spence's stupidity, in wrecking his car drunk has affected him. Is he really 100% fit
As for Derrick James I saw him in Curtis Cokes Home of Champions gym in Dallas Tx. He was just starting out as a pro then. He obviously didnt really have what was needed as a fighter as Curtis couldnt get him to follow orders
He doesnt seem much better as a trainer by the looks of things. Curtis is a great trainer but cannot perform miracles lol

What SHOULD happen is, Spence gets a tune up return bout. After that...no more of this PBC crap. It should be ONLY top WW's FFS.
