It could be alot worse. On the 19th November in South Africa 5 vacant WBF titles are on the line on the same bill.
They sanction the top 4 and the IBO. They said they've had good dealings with them for years. Still bollocks and doesn't help the game at all. IBO is only nice when elite fighters are mugging off the top orgs and fight for it. Otherwise it just adds to the problem.
At least I suppose there are a couple of decent names around the IBO belts, doesn't Wlad have the IBO heavyweight belt, and Tarver was IBO LHW champion recently (and might still be, not sure), so at least they have some names. I generally agree with this thread, but the IBO is levels above WBF etc, imho.
There shouldn't be levels. There should be the belts we are stuck with and nothing new unless it was something radical like a world governing body with commissions etc. IBO have a very good track record, probably the best but it pollutes the game further.
"But it's up to the IBO who they feel they want to go in with me". The IBO are just chuffed their going to have a champion between Bantam and Welterweight. They have 9 "World champions" and 4 of them are from South Africa! I doubt Vic, Wlad and Tarver give them any sanctioning fees. Being allowed to post their pic on the website is payment enough!
I completely 100% agree with you, apologies if I was not clear, I was just trying to understand the BBBofC's reasoning in sanctioning this and not letting WBF/WBU etc. take place. I would much rather have just one title, but obviously that isn't going to happen. Noone would consider the winner of this fight a world champion, anyway, so even though I agree that it is not great for the sport, hopefully it does not confuse anyone. Hopefully the winner won't parade themselves as a world champion, but perhaps I am being optimistic, there?
My understanding is that the BBBofC don't sanction IBO "world title" fights. They haven't sanctioned anything to do with this yet it seems, especially as Matthew's doesn't have a clue who he is fighting.
When Adam Smith and Johnny Nelson grilled Robert Smith on this on Ringside he got found out. His reasoning was they have a good relationship. That isn't any reasoning. The BBBofC are probably the best in the world but even they allow 5 world titles which should be a definite no no. I'm suprised that no 2 orgs have ever discussed merging. Sure there was history but imagined if the WBC and WBA merged. I'd say forget about the rest.
well not really because those two organisations have been probably on the whole the worst in the last few years. Even worse than the WBO for politics and the like. The IBF are the best of a bad bunch in truth, it would make a bigger statement if they just recognised them.
