After Derrys fight with Anthony there was a case to get a shot but losing the way he did against Stephen you'd question if he should, anyway it's not a world title fight he's got from what I hear

Couldn't agree more there - your bob on!

Anything less than a title shot after the build up they've been creating is nonsense!!

Come off it. He ducked the best opposition in that division.

TBH going on form at the minute none of the U.K lightweights really merit a title shot. But if anybody deserved a shot then Ricky Burns should be top of the list. After Burns it would be Derry Mathews.

...And the chance to win a World title, Billy.

Do remember Ricky has given a lot of domestic fighters hope that one day they can get a crack at World title shot and win it.

Billy i respect your views but when it comes to burns you speak with your heart more than your head. When there were rumours of burns vs mathysee i expected you to say burns at his best would beat him.
Imo none of the current lightweights in the uk deserve to fight for a world title but good luck to them if they do. burns can be back but he will have to fight a few fights before he gets a title fight.

Billy, you've seen him sparring with the best of the UK and seen him handle them, so your of course in the best position to say he's a level above - but off the back of what Burns done recently you can't say he truly deserves to be next in line for a world title shot?

I'd love for him to get another crack and I'd have my fingers crossed he'd return to form and pull it off, but 2 defeats 1 win and 1 questionable draw in his last 4 fights says to me that he shouldn't be the man next in line.

I'd like to see him get a decent and convincing win under his belt, then go from there.

there are no rumours of Burns v Mathyse total nonsense, what I'm say is clear Burns has obviously achieved way more than the rest getting beat by Crawford don't make you a bad fighter

I never said Matthews deserved a shot off the back of whAt he's done but if ****** decided to back him and get him the shot then I wouldn't have a problem with it. He would likely get outclassed but tbh I would be happy to see a world champ/class fighter like Abril perform over here.

Why did Hearn not just replace Crolla with Ricky for the Abril shot? For two reasons...Hearn wants to get rid of Ricky as quik as possible and would prefer to do it on somebody else's card and 2 he's not prepared to waste money paying Abril to beat up a shot Burns.

This version of Burns is no way the best lightweight in the uk either..I would pick the following to stand him on his head/bash him up now -Flannigan, Ormond, Campbell, Coyle & Crolla and arguably Matthews...it's sad but true.

Billy I'm sorry mate but Mitchell deserves a shot over Ricky now, Mitchell has won a bunch of fights in a row now but Ricky just hasn't, drew with Beltran, lost to Crawford (no shame in that), lost to Zlaticanin and beat but looked very poor against what is a nobody really. You don't get shots on what you did a few years ago, its what you have done in your last one or two fights and quite frankly Ricky has done nothing but Mitchell and even Crolla have put in good performances recently and are much more deserving of a world title fight

I think that's a but far, Crolla, Mitchell and maybe Campbell and Flanagan could beat Ricky now

Would add mitchell to that as well, plus in fairness it wouldn't sell well with burns in manchester and sales for his last fight in Glasgow were meant to be terrible

Think eddie is hoping for Flanagan to beat ormond, then win a purse bid for an all manc world title fight with crolla

From a bit of digging on the interweb across the pond from what ive read It should be Darlys Perez who won on friday night but could be sketchy if that fights made as Perez is now Mando for Abril , so cant see the need for Perez to go near Derry and risk a world title shot,

Derrys tweets on the weekend are comedy maybe too many blows to the head , Now rates himself the best in the U.K and says hes better than Burns , and now rates himself no1 contender with the WBA , strange for a lad who got folded like a pack of cards by Rees and Marsilli and cant get past a wbo euro level super feather in ste ormond ,
