Derry Matthews is he underated?

To be fair I've never seen any of his fights. Maybe I'll YouTube that one. Just can't stand him as a pundit anymore. His "I always speak the truth crap" is getting old. He says that but then on the other hand is scared to step outta line and fall off the sky gravy train. He seems to be flavour of the month there too.

 

Derrry big 5 fight deal with FW and a supposed walkover against Ormond for that WBO European paper belt was supposed to be his route to Ricky Burns at the time , Ormond soon put that to bed !!!!!

 

His route to Ricky Burns who absolutely mullered him in sparring. A fight he knew he couldn't win. He's a British level fighter. He didn't deserve a shot at Gethin, that was a farce in itself. Let's see if he fights Flanagan, i would put money on him not doing.

If the topic title was overrated it would be credible as that is very much the case. The guy has been stopped 7 times FFS

Come on Macky Derry is a hard working pro (one of the best) and lets not forget he got the better of your boy Crolla out the two fights. Derry has been knocked down more than a few times, but he's always got back up again and that's the sign of a true fighter. I hope Derry gets his shot.

 

The bold is what i agree with. Don't need to go into what happened in the Crolla fights but if that was a logit stoppage in the 1st fight then i'm the pope. I'm not disputing the fact hes a good pro or an entertaining fighter. But does he deserve a world title shot, does he hell, and anyone who believes he does is as deluded as he is. He got beat easy by Rees and Marsili when he was in his prime, now he's talking fights above those kind of people and people are buying it my god what is the world coming to

He got beat by Rees and Marsilli, you mean Gavin Rees the former world light-welterweight champion who beat Sol Mbaye? Rees was in his prime when he beat Derry he just came off a career best win in France against Anthony Mazache and Marsilli's quality as well if only he got out of Italy more often to prove it you would know it, but he's still a good lightweight.

Anyway in between they losses Derry beat Crolla convincingly. I mean Derry put him over, opened him up then stopped him it was that simple.
As i said before if there's talk about Crolla getting world title shots then there should be talk of Derry getting them as well, at least Derry has stepped up and fought guys in there prime more.

Listen, go on youtube and watch that 'stoppage'. Derry was blowing out his arse and would have been stopped in the next couple of rounds. Crolla was fighting back and was defending himself, he was no way in trouble. There is talk of Crolla getting a world title shot because he has beaten Rees who is world rated, who was being lined up to fight Burns should he have won, he's also stopped John Murray. Derry beat Crolla over 2 years ago, hes no way improved since then hes got worse. Crolla is a different fighter and has proved himself and worked his way up the ladder.

Serious question, what has Derry done in the last 2 years to deserve shot?

The first Crolla-Derry fight was man against boy where Derry put him over, opened him up then stopped him. The second fight was closer i had Mathews just ahead, but the draw was probably the fair result.

Rees was in his pomp more when he fought Derry than he was for Crolla :deal

Derry sparked Coyle and Woodhouse no if's or buts about it.

Crolla beat Stephen Foster Jnr who's past it and on late notice, but Derry destroyed him when he was fresh

Derry lost to Ormond, but bounced back to beat Gethin. Crolla beat a past it John Murray. Both Gethin and Murray failed at World level, so I would say both Crolla and Derry are on course for a world title shot and maybe one or two fights away from it.
