Derry Matthews is back in the gym in preparation for a comeback fight sometime in July

What are peoples opinions of this can he get back into British title contention or does he have nothing left to offer?

I think he's going to struggle to get into title contention. I thought he'd retired at the right time.

If he is back at super feather its a division that is going to be hard to make a mark on he could probably beat Lawton in a rematch but with people like Crolla Johanneson and Sykes knocking about he is going to run into trouble at some point imo though i think pre Choi he could have dealt with some of these guys quite nicely

  5. I'm surprised after he was so clear about retiring. He seemed to be making the right decision at the right time after the Lawton defeat.

He's still young enough to keep going but 4 stoppage defeats in his last 5 fights isn't a good thing for anybody.

to be honest Super Featherweight is a weak division. he is a big enough name to get a shot.

I thought he made the right decision as well..... Lawton isn't a particularly heavy hitter and he stopped Mathews.

I know he boxed really well against Lindsay before the KO but you've got to question his decision to come back now.

If he does it needs to be against a very low level journeyman, don't want to see him get badly hurt by a quality fighter.

To be honest looking at the guys in the division if he can get himself mentally ready this time I think a title is up for grabs.

He needs to stay retired. If he does come back it will be short lived.I feel a bit sorry for him he was going so well up to the Choi fight and then it all just fell apart.

I dont like this news TBH , however its no mans place to say a toung man like Derry cant comeback , with the boxing scene buzzing in Liverpool ATM he can get some publicity with a couple of decent undercard fights and who knows .

    Good luck m8 !!!!!!!

    So do I.

I like Derry. He's a hard working, honest lad but he's achived everything that he can in the sport. He may need the money which is unfortunate but if he doesn't and he just can't stay away then I think he really needs to re-consider.

if hes going to comeback he should rebuild from scratch an maybe move to a whole new training camp even outside the city, one or two warm up fights to set himself back up then i dont see why he couldnt hve another crck at a title, maybe even stp up to lightweight???
