The irony, of course, is that tribal warfare between other native Americans was as brutal and ruthless as can be imagined. Entire villages, even tribes wiped out. They have found mass graves from one tribe decimating another, pre-dating any white arrivals. It's interesting how history is being modified these days, condemning the victors while making them out to be the least civilized and most barbaric. But I know your post was intended to be light. The remnants of utterly decimated populations that, aside from a few that have "made good" on their situation (at least financially) by getting into the casino biz, are in generations-deep slumps of mass depression and chemical dependencies, brought about by the lasting psychological trauma of having their culture slowly erased, assimilated or ridiculed by the American mainstream, and physically being pigeonholed into small, remote & isolated parcels of nominally sovereign (or at least semi-sovereign) land surrounded on every side by the paternalistic but still hostile United States.
