I wasn't being cute or ironic here, either - the enduring image in my mind of Pea is of all things, for whatever reason - the annihilation of Hurtado. If the thread were "summarize Pernell Whitaker's style or career in one word" of course it'd be different, but this is my first visceral response when I think of him. I always go back to the terrifying display of savagery that was that 11th round. As no parameters were set, subjective interpretation reigns and I stand by this. :good

I'm going to steal a line from Holyfield, who summed up Pernell with one word: sneaky.

That was the source of Whitaker's strength in defense, in playing the angles on opponents, on surprising them with shots that seemed to come out of nowhere:; he was one clever, sneaky mother****er.

 

I'm surprised your one word wasn't 'Whitacre'.
