When the "perfect" heavyweights have actualy croped up it has not been from dream combinations like these. Joe Louis was a clumsy kid with power and fast hands. Jack Blackburn developed him into the ultimate fighting machine. Muhamad Ali was a kid with god given reflexes who never learned anything about boxing. Yet you can't argue with the results. Rocky Marciano was a pitiful little man with no boxing skill and penguin arms yet he was moulded into an all time great between Charlie Goldman and himself. Michael Grant was a more realistic prospect than any of these jokers.
Size: Nicolay Valuev Handspeed: Floyd Patterson Footspeed: Muhammad Ali Jab: Larry Holmes Right Cross: Joe Louis Overhand Right: Earnie Shavers Uppercut: Mike Tyson Left Hook: Joe Frazier Chin: George Chuvalo Body (ability to absorb): Muhammad Ali Body Attack: Joe Frazier Stamina: Rocky Marciano
Yeah he knew the importance of footwork and movement in order to hit an opponent without himself being hit. Some say that's the art of fighting not to slug it out like a Marciano - hit and be hit style.
You wouldn't exactly have challengers falling over themselves for their shot at the title. Instead of the champ avoiding the challenger you'd have the challenger avoiding the champ :rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl
And once that was gone, what was Ali's best defense?? Yep the rope a dope. A tactic which was getting hit and hitting back. Had Ali learn the basics of rolling with punchings like Archie Moore or to a lesser extant Rocky Marciano, Ali would not have taking as bad as beatings as he did in his later years.
Yep. That's my final choice I think. One day there'll be a 6ft 5in version of Ali- but with Lewis-type power and no ****er will beat him...unless he fights till he's about 40. Still, someone will say "Jack Dempsey beat Willard and..." :dead
And Dempsey will beat him. A bigger target to hit. The bigger you get, the less speed you have. Thats the REASON there will never be a Vauly type of fighter with Ali speed.
But this is a 'what if?' thread so get on board. Dempsey would be mashed by most of the rest of all-time Top 10 anyway but that's another story. :good
