Rather than being critical of the Irish fans who support them, it might be more appropriate to have a pop at the cynical poseurs who take advantage of their passion and loyalty by pretending to give a **** about where their relatives were from...I mean some (Macklin aside, perhaps; didn't spend a load of time in Ireland and get good at hurling?) clearly saw the mileage in playing up to their roots; they all grew up in the wake of those most plastic of paddies, the Pogues. They realise that it's worth a few euros!

I always find it funny when a limey cant accept that someone might prefer to be known as Irish rather than English . Its not just sportstars , my Da was brought up in Peckham to Irish parents in an Irish family yet never once in his life did he consider himself English even though he moved over here when he was 14 and he certanley isnt and wont ever be the only one .

 

Moving here when you're 14 is different to being born and bred in Birmingham.

 

My Da was born and bred londoner but was always brought up to be Irish .

Ive met a few people the same even though born and bred with an English accent would never consider themselevs English .Its not as black and white as you English may think .
