Despite Dick Tiger having a better middleweight resume than Hopkins, why is Hopkins rated higher?

    Hopkins 2 best wins at Middleweight were against junior Middleweights where as Tiger fought genuine elite middleweights in a golden age of middleweights.

    1955-1965 middleweight crop was ridiculously stacked.

    Tiger's middleweight resume;

    Henry Hank
    Rubin Carter
    Florentino Fernandez (power puncher)
    Spider Webb
    Holly Mims
    Jose Monon Gonzalez (power puncher)
    Terry Downes
    Joey giardello x2
    Gene Fullmer x2
    Don Fullmer
    Yolande Pompey

    Whereas Hopkins reigned Middleweight champ in one of the worst periods, whereby all of the great middleweights of 87-95 moved up to 168/175 divisions.

    Hopkins middleweight resume;

    John David Jackson
    Simon Brown (post prime)
    Glen Johnson
    Keith Holmes
    Joppy
    Trinidad
    De la Hoya

    Partisan, fan boy Hopkins types can overrate him if they wish. I say that Tiger would savage Hopkins up close and personal for a one sided decision victory over 15.

    Hopkins too canny and shifty for Richard. 5 or so spots ahead too.

    I dare any man in this room-this virtual room-to do a Google image search for Hopkins' smile. Then, I implore you to look deeply into his eyes and his gaze and his smile and his dentical mouth and lips. Then, tell me that you do not see the universe. Then tell me you rate Tiger more highly. You come back and you all tell me that. Then we'll talk.

    Tiger may have better names on his resume but head to head Hopkins was too smart for him. Tiger could be made to look like he had cement shoes against a smart boxer.

    15 rounds is a long time for Hopkins to be in the ring with Tiger, if Hopkins can control distance he could take a UD, if in the later rounds this fight goes close quarters Hopkins will be walking a rough road.

    Tiger has never been kayoed at 160 and was only dropped once at age 36 + weight drained vs Griffith.

    We saw what Mercado did to Hopkins

    I'm not a big Hopkins fan, but he would have beaten Dick Tiger. I've seen both of these guys fight stinker fights, but Hopkins should outbox him on the outside.

    If you're summing up Hopkins H2H abilities on Mercado 1 you've got a fair sized axe to grind.

    I would personally be 50/50 on this match-up, but when Hopkins first fought Mercado, that was miles above sea level in Ecuador. I believe Hopkins sorted it out in the rematch.
