    But while Golovkin--or 'Triple G' as he is known to everyone with more than a passing interest in the sport--may seem like a one man army as he destroys contenders left right and center, he is in fact the culmination or more than eighty years of evolution in his homeland.

    But before we get to the first gloved punches traded in Kazakhstan, we have to look at the country that Kazakh boxing is inextricably linked to--Mother Russia--and how a particular style of pugilism would come to develop in the Soviet states. For this we have to look back not just decades but centuries.

    Similar to Jem Mace's travels around the world spreading the boxing germ to previously uncultured combat aficionados, Loustalot taught techniques to eager Russians, and likely drew on his Savate kickboxing and fencing background.

    The first ever boxing match in St. Petersburg took place on March 25th, 1898 in the Winter Stadium between Loustalot and his student 'Bines'. This would have surely attracted more attention to the sport and enticed more fighters and athletes to study under the Frenchman's tutelage.

    At this time however--as it was in Moscow--boxing was still seen as a manly art rather than a fully-fledged standalone sport. Loustalot worked with weight lifters and strongmen, such as Guido Meyer, seen below with the Frenchman around 1898.

    Oh, I don't know about that, I'd say from reading it that he's likely a very handsome young chap with a large p enis though.

    I'd also hedge my bets that he'd love to hear the opinions of his beloved Classic Forum on these two pieces, especially considering part 3 is to be published tomorrow.

    As I say, just a hunch from reading these two rather splendid works of art.

    I'll have to read this.
    I hear so much talk about Golovkin at the moment, but I admit, almost all of his opponents I've never even heard of.

    It's not really about Golovkin's opponents to be honest, it's about the history of Kazakh boxing and GGG's early years.

    Yeah, I haven't been paying attention to Kazakh boxing lately - or since the beginning of time - either, so I could still learn something I'm sure. :lol:

    Also my history teacher at school shares the same surname as yourself and his Dad, believe it or not is called Lachlan ... Ridiculous
