This isn't anything new. Kovalev emerged from NBC Sports when Main Events was putting on cards. Stars can emerge from it, but I don't know if stars can make money on NBC Sports. When Kovalev fought on NBC, the ratings weren't that good. About 10 years ago, they had boxing on NBC, but those ratings were fairly low too. Haymon will be paying Goosen, NBC Sports and his fighters. The only source of income is sponsorship and advertising. If he doesn't get high ratings, he's not going to be able to put on good fighters. Haymon is putting up a lot of upfront cost, and it could end up being a money losing effort. This first card is the bait. It's decent, but he needs to continue to make quality match-ups. I doubt he can with just advertising and sponsorship.
Boxing on free TV? Wow that new idea...not! It happen over here. Need fighter willing to be real about payday. Huge sum of money not happen again but better for sport.
if tr and gbp won't let their fighters fight haymon's fighters, this deal/show will flop. haymon don't have enough talent to make exciting/entertaining fight on a consistent basis.
There's plenty of other places to pull fighters from. GBP and TR are not the only promoters. Let's see what happens with this deal and if any stars emerge. It's also good for exposure to boxing.
Agreed. And hey, at least if the cards do turn into one sided mismatches, they're on the venue they belong at instead of eating up massive amounts of Showtime's budget.
I'm extremely worried that this will be a showcase series of mismatches and that none of the top guys will be fighting each other....hope I'm wrong, but it's Haymon.
Big Al puts on a great card and you still have a bunch of *****ing and whining by the haters on here. Unbelievable.
