Presser going on now. It's been confirmed that Broner/Molina and Thurman-Guerrero will kick off the first show on March 7th. They also just announced Danny Garcia vs. Lamont Peterson will headline the second show on April 11th.
Called it This means Postol will have a free fight in the meantime and the winner has to drop the belt or face him. I wonder if Wilder will headline a card if he beats Stiverne?
I don't understand how Haymon makes any money on this. He is paying NBC for the time. He is paying the fighters. Presumably even though Goosen and Warriors are the promoters, Haymon must be getting at least some of the profit. I believe he gets the advertising money during the broadcasts. I know the initial pool of money is coming from investors. But, if you look at just the first card, lets say he could have gotten $2M from Showtime for that. Instead he is probably net losing money on it. I only really see this working if he creates such a brand and high ratings that advertising fees increase enough for him to make money off of it in the future. Or if in some way he is able to corner the boxing market and create a monopoly which he can control a la the UFC.
I too am curious about this endeavour.NBC is in probably 90 million homes,I would guess and advertisers pay on an escalating scale, depending on how may eye***** are watching.Clearly he has a few sponsors like a brewery and perhaps another corporate entity, but that sure doesn't cover the expenses like the fighters purses, rental of the venue, advertising and hotels and on and on. Something just does not add up unless it is creative accounting that his "investors" bought into. Al's explaination should be most interesting indeed.
A few more notes from the presser... The Series will be called Premier Boxing Champions #PBConNBC All fighters will undergo Olympic style random drug testing Fighters will be expected to compete 3-4 times per year in the PBC series. Composer Hans Zimmer is doing the music for the series
Off to a really good start. That explains why he had the soft matches in 2014. I kind of suspected the reason but didn't think it had to do with the NBC deal.
