Now correct me if I am wrong, I am only 16 and have been following boxing for only a year or 2, and so this fight is before my time. But when Shane Mosley faced Vernon Forrest for the first time was he not the consensus P4P king? So when he got beat twice by Forrest, was Forrest then regarded as the consensus number 1 p4p? If not, who was? Hopkins? I find this topic interesting, could somebody please post me a timeline of the p4p number 1 post Mosley vs Forrest, all the way to when Mayweather took the crown (around when I started following the sport)
:good As to the original thread title, Mosley was considered P4P #1 by a large minority pre-Forrest, but most people considered RJJ #1. And Forrest would NOT have replaced Mosley on these lists: ask yourselves, how high did Tarver go after dethroning Jones? (He was rated between #4 - #8 as far as I remember).
Anyone know who has had the longest p4p #1 reign? I realize it depends who you ask, but throw some names out that had it for a long time. Thanks
It always depends on whos list you look at. There is no official p4p list but I know that at the time a lot of people had felix trinidad at #1. As a matter of fact I remember a live debate between teddy atlas and max kellerman over whether it should be shane or tito.
The ring magazines list is the official p4p list. When you hear/see most posters, commentators, fighters refer to p4p positions of other fighters...its always based on the ring's list unless they are stating their own opinion of p4p rankings.
If we are going by the ring Shane was definatly number one at the time. I am not sure but I think Tito was #2 and Roy was #3
